Do you know your phone number?

I know my home number, cell, work, and my wife’s cell. Dialing my wife’s cell sounds like Mary had a little lamb to me which is funny enough to me. I also remember my number from when I was growing up as a kid. I can remember one of my sister’s numbers but not my mom’s or my other sister.

I can still remember my parents’ number from when I was in high school. And the number of a woman that I dated way back in the 80s. That was super easy to memorize, based on my parents’ number.

Them: 716-555-5555
Her: 617-455-4555

Don’t bother calling that number. She’s not home.

I can answer both yes and no to this question.

I have had the same Vonage home number for a little over three years, now, and was able to memorize it fairly quickly. So yes to that part. However, when I moved a year and a half ago to a place in a different area code, the landlord told me that in order to program my number into the apartment call box, I had to have a local phone number (I suspect that’s bullshit in this day and age, but it wasn’t worth arguing with him about). So I added a second phone number with Vonage for $5/month that rings to the same line. Beyond the area code, I have no clue what that number is, even though I can recall specifically getting one that would be easy to remember.

Oh, and that call box? It doesn’t work anymore.

In other news, I know my cell number and my wife’s cell number and my work phone number. I can’t think of any other numbers I have memorized these days.
