Philosophr, you strike me as being a thoughtful person. I can appreciate your safety concerns, but you can protect your family with a well-built car like a Volvo without leveraging all the physical risk in a collision to the other party, as you would by buying an aggressively oversized vehicle like the H2. When oversized vehicles and regular cars collide, the results are very often fatal head and neck injuries to the occupants of the car… and decapitations aren’t uncommon. You can secure a reasonable degree of safety for you and yours without being socially irresponsible about it.
And then there’s the national security and ecological imperatives. The less money we fork over to OPEC nations, and the fewer greenhouse gases we emit, the better.
