Do you like Seinfeld or hate it?

I Love it. The humor comes from them getting into. everyday situations, with a twist added to it. My favorite character was Jerry Seinfeld

Loved it when it aired and in the immediate years afterwards. I still have fond memories, but it has not aged as well as other shows. I prefer MASH or Cheers nowadays.

It’s of its time and is the sitcom of the 90’s.

I didn’t watch much originally, but through re-runs, I LOVE it. And I love the finale, too.

Meh. The finale was pretty mediocre.

No, I don’t like it or hate it.

There were some minor annoyances but on the whole I think Seinfeld was a work of genius such as rarely happens in television. It was a combination of great writing and a perfect cast that, regardless of their successes or failures elsewhere, were just absolutely perfect together in this venue.

What I didn’t like is that it eventually became a bit self-conscious and cliquey. Some of the buzz-phrases became national water-cooler office conversation the next day, and the show started to self-importantly cater to that phenomenon, as if it was no longer merely a reflection of contemporary culture but the driver of it. Or, even before that, the self-indulgence of creating episodes centered on Seinfeld’s unique lifestyle, like the “hilarious” business of trying to sell a comedy series to NBC. Come on, Seinfeld and David, how many viewers besides the two of you can really identify with that?

But that was minor stuff. The show really was creative genius and some of it was hilariously funny.

Loved it. My favorite character was Puddy. Yeah. . .that’s right.

Hated it. I had a hard time sitting through any episodes. Basic structure:
First five minutes - set up a somewhat intelligent joke.
Rest of the show - repeat the same joke over and over again.

I get that many people find repetition funny. I don’t. I never saw what other people claimed was smart about the show.

Never got into it - I didn’t understand its appeal. Can’t say that I hate it - I’m just profoundly indifferent.

I find Seinfeld’s style of humor grating. The whole crew is like NYC versions of “Mama’s Family”.

Love it. The perfect popcorn tv show.

Well, that ends a streak of me agreeing with everything I’ve seen you post since I’ve been here. How sad!

Though I must say I thought the first few seasons were uneven and I thought the acclaim for “originality” was a bit misplaced. But the shows got better and better and they really hit their stride with remarkable consistency around Season 5. I’m aware that some think the show started to go downhill somewhere around that time. These people of course are wrong.

I can and will usually drop whatever I’m doing it there’s an episode on. It’s one of the only shows that I love. It’s like meatloaf. A comfort show.

Hated it. Mostly because I actively detested all of the main characters except for maybe Kramer. I don’t need to like a protagonist to enjoy a show. I need to not be grinding my teeth hoping someone throat punches them to laugh at the jokes though.

What they said. But I loved Mama’s Family. I never get tired of the reruns. I wish I could say the same for Seinfeld.

But I have found that knowing a lot of Seinfeld stuff comes in handy for social interactions. People around me frequently make references to the show, and I like getting their allusions.

It’s OK to good, it has not aged as good as others (as stated by at least one other). Never got the massive popularity, and it did seem to get somewhat repetitive, especially the music segway.

I don’t know why it has to be like or hate.

The show was only superficially “unique,” but a lot of people bought into that. At bottom, the humor was very run-of-the-mill sitcom jokes.

It really was just an ordinary sitcom pretending to be something else. No reason to hate it.

I disagree most strenuously about it being “ordinary”

Compare it to friends or Cheers, or anything in the last 15 years on network. Different animal. The plots were outrageous and generous with detail, sometimes surreal or experimental. One episode had Jimmy the self referential guy who invented a new shoe and a Mel Torme appearance, and Kramer appearing to be handicapped, Elaine involved in identity confusion with Jimmy because he refers to himself in third person, and Jimmy wanting to kill Kramer. In 22 minutes.

If the jokes were similar to another sitcom it didn’t occur to me maybe because the ensemble was so strong, it went past them.

At what point did any joke repeat in that one BTW? Someone must be kidding.

Hated it. Didn’t like any of the characters, didn’t think the jokes were funny, and the whole thing seemed pointless to me.

It’s been a long time since I saw an episode of Mama and her family so maybe it’s different from the Carol Burnett skits which spawned it. I’ve been watching her reruns on MeTV and change it whenever a Family skit comes on.
