Do you like turtlenecks?

Interesting variety of comments!

I like the idea of them… and I used to wear them until I got a good look at myself and realized that I should never ever ever wear a turtleneck again.

Cowlnecks, V-necks, those weird U-neck things from a few years ago - great! But as my neck is on the shorter side, turtlenecks look awful on me.

Other people can look great in them.

No turtlenecks but rather a nice leather collar, no? Now that’s a great feeling.

I don’t have a long neck, but I suffer from fear-of-cold-neck syndrome, so I fold mine over three times instead of two. But the neck can’t be too tight, and the fit can’t be too loose. Cashmere is best. On men: the beatnik/longshoreman (depends on physique) look is good, but if you can’t carry it off, keep it off.

Frankly I think men look goofy in turtlenecks.

I, on the other hand, look FABULOUS.

I like turtleneck sweaters with fold-down “turtles,” because they’re loose, comfy and flattering…but I hate knit turtlenecks. It’s like wearing a sock around your neck.

And I can’t stand the whole turtleneck-with-cardigan look; it reminds me of aging yuppies and applique sweaters. Just the thing for that Autumn Skirt With Pumpkin Print. Ugh.

Oh yeah, and turtlenecks look really stupid with necklaces. Just Don’t Do It!

That’s hilarious. I have a friend who wears the turtleneck/jacket combo and I don’t like it. Now I can tell him, “You’re looking very Carl Sagany today!”

Now that I’ve read this thread, I realize that I have a black only rule for tutlenecks. Neutrals are okay sometimes but colourful turtlenecks are always going to look like you’re about to take a bunch of children skiing, or like Audrey Levins just said, pumpkin-print skirtish. Like you’re off to the craft-supply store and you don’t care who knows it.

I love turtle necks.

Oh! I am SO with you on everything you said, and especially this. If you have to pull the pendant on your necklace UP and OVER the turtleneck so that it shows…don’t.

Sigh. It seems like everytime she posts something, Audrey Levins posts exactly what I was going to say.

Everyone who agrees with me should check their mailbox.

You’ll be receiving a red and green applique cardigan ‘n’ turtleneck set shortly, just in time for the holiday festivities.

I know, I know…it’s a small way to show someone you care.

I like them but I can’t wear them–my neck is too short or something. But I love mock turtlenecks and wear them alot during the winter. They don’t go up as high.

My husband looks great in a turtleneck shirt.
