Do you listen to the candidate's phone spam?

I am hating the pre-recorded phone spam I’m getting from Hillary and Obama. Hill has been worse, but both are guilty.

So it makes me wonder how effective it is. (Like real spam.) Does anyone listen?

I hang up immediately. If it’s on my answering machine, I press the skip button as soon as it starts.

I only got Obama ones prior to the primary here. One was a live call from a Obamaniac asshole from out of state who wanted to tell another independent voter why he was voting for Barack. As if I give a shit what some stranger thinks. I still voted for Obama but it really pissed me off.

My home number is unlisted, and I haven’t gotten many such calls. But I’m a political junkie, so I’ll usually listen when I get them, even if I know there’s not a chance in hell I’d vote for that particular candidate. It’s more of an intellectual exercise for me, judging the recording’s persuasiveness, production values, writing style, etc.

I do but only because I want to know what people are saying about my candidate. At least as far as local and state candidates, I know a number of them so if I hear a message that might be a bit out of line, the next time I am at a political function I ask whether they have heard the latest crap that the other candidate is saying. If its a live caller, I know that sometimes volunteers can put their own spin on the scripts and I just like to let my team know what the other team is saying on the phone.

You’ve got to be kidding.
First of all, we don’t answer if we don’t recognize the caller. When I listen to the messages, I hit delete the instant I realize it’s phone spam - no matter who the caller is.

I have a dead woman’s phone number (assigned to us when we moved about a year ago). She had the number for (I’m estimating) thirty-seven years and (I’m interpreting evidence) bought/voted for/signed a petition for everything anyone ever mentioned to her. Her name, by the way was not quite Cheryl. It was a (I’m rounding down) unique variant. We were getting near daily pre-recorded phone spams from Mitt Romney or his wife for about two months. The last one was a Mitt, himself, pre-recorded call and it started"Hello {pause} Cheryl {pause}, this is Mitt Romney." It sounded like the same voice throughout. If candidates are spending their time creating cheery recordings of lists of first names, instead of forming policy or shaking hands, it explains a lot about the state of modern politics.

I got a bunch of calls from Hillary and Barack right before the Ohio primary, but I knew I was voting for Barack so I hung up.

If I get calls for a state or local race I might listen (I listened last year for an Ohio election) if I’m not sure what I think yet. If I get the call when I’m in my office, I write down some of the claims and look them up for myself.

One of my good friend recently got an unlisted number, so I answer now even if the number is unidentified.

They would have to be a really good friend for me to do that.
I just let the machine pick it up, and listen to who it is…

I get mostly local pols doing “surveys” with loaded questions, like “Do you believe the mayor should be held accountable for her deficit spending?”
But I stop at the first strange question.

As soon as I realize I’ve been called by a recording, I hang up, regardless of the reason for the call. I simply refuse to entertain that particular situation. Drives me bonkers. I could go on…

I’m quick with the click - whether a recording or live. I prefer to make my decisions based upon issues and stuff. I have no interest in listening to phone spam.
