Do you live in the same city, county, state, country you work in?

I live in Fairfax County, Virginia (near DC) and work there too. I have also, while living in Fairfax County, worked in nearby Arlington County, Loudoun County, and across the river in DC. One of the neat things about DC is that the District home-rule charter explicitly denies them the right to tax commuters - so there was never an issue of needing to file a DC tax return. Since they aren’t a state, they lack the sovereign right to do, well, anything and have to derive their authority from Congress. Everything was reported to Virginia and I was taxed just as if I had worked in Virginia.

I work at a community college that is placed ~equidistant between 3 small cities, one of which I live in. It’s in the middle of the county, and the near neighbors are all cows.

I live in the same city in which I work, a large suburb of Atlanta, Georgia.

I live in a rural area of Grand Cayman. I pass three district (county, more or less) borders on my way to/from work which is about 23 miles away. Cities or town borders are not so distinctly defined but I pass through two towns on my way to work in the city.

While the international airport is in George Town where I work, few outside of Cayman have heard of the place. Nearest really major city is Havana, Cuba about 265 miles away by plane. For a sports franchise the closest is Miami, Florida 455 miles away.

I live in the suburbs outside of Seattle. I work 7 miles from my house but technically in another city.

I live in Caseyville, IL, and work in Fairview Heights, IL, which are, respectively, 9 miles and 12 miles from St. Louis, MO. Both are in St. Clair county. Different zip codes.

For most of my life I lived and worked in the same city. A couple years ago there was an internal restructuring in my company and my group moved to a different building, about 1/2 mile from the building I used to work in…so now I work outside the city limits, but still within the county.

I just realized that I was incorrect. I’ve been working in Sacramento County, but not within the City of Sacramento, for the last almost 17 years…but for all but the last two, the address of the building was ‘Sacramento, CA’, with a ‘city’ ZIP code; now the address is ‘Mather, CA’, with a ‘county’ ZIP code.

I live and work in the same: state, county, area code, city, and zip code. My commute is 0.6 miles, and has been for the last 7 years.

Nearest major city: San Francisco. Go Giants!

Bolding mine.

There really ought to be a rule against this sort of off-topic commentary.

Spoken like a true Dodger fan, perhaps?

Indeed! Fortunately, Dodger Stadium is only 3.5 miles from work.

Thinking about it, I don’t think there has ever been a point in my life that I’ve had to leave the county for my normal work commute. I have always lived and worked in LA County (though that isn’t saying much, given the size of the county). But I have lived as far as 35 miles away, which required going through quite a few different cities to get from one to the other.

I live in Alameda County, California but work in Santa Clara County. The closest major city is Oakland. San Jose is just slightly further. San Francisco is not far also.

Have you considered moving or getting a different job?

When I lived in SoCal, I once had a job that was 70 miles from home. Because of traffic, it often took 2.5 to 3 hours, one way.

After a year, I volunteered for a layoff and vowed that I would never live that far from work again.

I live and work in the City of Cape Town*, Western Cape, South Africa.

(In the late 90s there was a big municipal amalgamation, so that the whole metropolitan area falls under a single municipal government. But the particular suburb I live in was annexed by the city way back in 1913. We still have our own Town Hall, though.)

*Yes, that is the official name, containing both the words “City” and “Town”. In Afrikaans it is even more redundant: “Stad Kaapstad”.

I live in Maryland and work in Virginia, but about 90% of my commute is in DC.

Cross city and county borders.
Closest sports franchise from home is Oakland As and Raiders, 10 miles or so up 880.
Closest from work is the 49ers in the new Levi Stadium - within walking distance.
That’s the Santa Clara 49ers. :stuck_out_tongue:

No, No, Yes, Yes.

Live: St. Clair Shores, Macomb Co, Michigan, US.
Work: Dearborn, Wayne Co., Michigan, US.

Major city? Detroit, though the main Intl airport (DTW) is in Romulus.

I work from home, so I don’t even have to change addresses to go to work.

I live in the same county (Hampshire), but it’s about 15 miles to go to that city.

Nearest big city with your criteria is Southampton.
