Vinyl has made a huge comeback over the last several years. Many new releases are issued on vinyl now. Turntables, especially high end ones, are more readily available now than six years ago. I bet that you never knew that you were a hipster.
Yeah, anybody saying they can’t get either CD players or turntables is taking technophobia to an extreme, basically saying you ‘can’t get’ stuff you can find a healthy selection of in seconds online. Which is an especially strange statement made from a computer hooked to the internet .
I have a USB turntable which I guess a lot smaller % of households have than music CD playing devices. And most of the vinyl collection of my youth, though it’s been trimmed down somewhat over the years. And, after making mp3 files of a lot of it, both the player and records are in a closet now. We also have some music CD devices like I guess a larger % of household but pretty much never use them anymore.
No clock radio’s, those were thrown out years ago, even pre-smart phone. We used a mini stereo (with CD player!) as alarm before we dismantled that and went with just phones.
Yeah - we’ve got a turntable as well.
But when we looked to repair/replace one Bose unit, we saw they did not offer a CD on their new units. And fewer and fewer cars are offering CDs. They may not go the way of 8-tracks, but at some point, I imagine we’ll find it useful to change over to Spotify or some streaming/cloud-based system. Just to this point, we haven’t felt the need/desire to do so.
So now you can re-retire. I hope you didn’t get up at 3am for this.
My year old Civic has the option of streaming from your phone or you can play music stored on a phone or thumb drive via USB.
