One of my second cousins is in prison till he dies for murder; he was the driver in an armed robbery gone mad. Each time I visit him he opines that he’s not actaully a murderer. Each time I reply that he’s so full of shit he cannot possibly have an asshole.
I was in Iraq the first time with this guy. We used to pull gate guard together – one of us on the radio and one on the gun – and he seemed like a fairly laid back dude.
We went home, took thirty days leave, next thing I hear of him he is in jail for third degree murder. Apparently he was in Chicago on leave, went to buy some drugs with his uncle, and a gunfight ensued. They both got charged with murder. I don’t know the specifics and I’ve never heard of him again, so it isn’t much of a story.
I know 2 murderers. The first one shot and killed my best friend’s brother. I knew both men very well, and also the woman they were both involved with. All three were just POS, actually. The killer was famous in our little town for being violent and nasty, he and his brothers used to get into fights and go after each other with pitchforks. No one was particularly surprised that he finally did kill someone. It was plea-bargained down to manslaughter (his father was rich and could hire the best lawyers) and he served 18 months.
The second guy is another friend’s adopted son. He is a First Nations man (native, or Indian, depending on the terminology fashionable where you live) who was born with severe Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. I’ve known him most of his life and think his story is about one of the saddest stories I know. He killed his girlfriend’s mother and is in prison for at least 25 years. He won’t be getting out, most likely he will die in prison. He is what they used to call “million dollar babies” here in Canuckistan, but what with inflation and all, it’s probably more like “10 million dollar baby” now. He was nearly impossible to educate, has no impulse control, all the usual outcomes of FAS.
A former relative (divorce) was in a gang for quite some time with some connections to the Mexican Mafia. While I know no specifics, it seems a fair assessment that he lives in fear - and given some implied things…
I’m pretty sure he’s killed, at least once.
As a side note - in high school I had a friend intimate that he THOUGHT he’d killed. Lived as though he did for a year until he found out otherwise. He’d beat a guy who had date raped his sister. Much as I wanted to judge him… I really couldn’t. I just couldn’t. y’know?
An in-law cousin killed his wife & then himself. I knew him because whenever there were family get togethers, they’d seat him and his wife at our table. (I still can’t believe it happened…)
I had met a kid in junior high school that soon after murdered a friend of his in an argument, with a hammer in his garage. We moved away before the trial, but he admitted the crime, just contested the intent, etc.
A friend of mine from high school was convicted of murder several years ago. I actually had to testify for the defense, although I personally believe he was guilty. His girlfriend had ended up turning him in, and because she was involved she got 25 years (ended up serving about 5), and he’s in prison for life.
I didn’t know him well, but I knew a guy who strangled his wife, and then threw himself in front of an 18-wheeler on the highway. While my sister was babysitting their two kids for the evening.
The guy lingered in a coma for a couple of weeks, and then died. The kids, who were about 5 and 7 or so, chose not to go to his funeral. They’re still really messed up, 10 years later.
My uncle spent a few years in prison for manslaughter. He was involved with a married woman, her husband found out, went after my uncle with a knife, my uncle shot him. As I understand it (I was about 8 or 9 at the time, so I’m a bit unclear on some of the details), he was charged with 2nd degree murder and was considering arguing self-defence, but went for a plea-bargain resulting in a manslaughter conviction.
As with some of the other cases here, he is now a productive member of society – married, three kids, good job.
No murderers, just a systematic child molester and all-around wacko who was once on America’s Most Wanted . He worked at the game store that I and my then-boyfriend (now husband) frequented, and ran a lot of the group events aimed at younger gamers - 6 - 12, or thereabouts. I also knew his two primary targets, albeit peripherally.
He hit on me a couple of times, and I find that (in retrospect) to be hilariously funny. (I think that was part of his cover, as I was a bit too old and too female to be in his demographic of choice.) Other points of note: I was witness to the call where the owner of the store was asked (by the molester’s mother) to mortgage said store in order to post bail for her son. The result was… a study in invective whose heights I have still to match.
A kid I grew up with. I even started a thread about it when I was looking for more information on what actually happened.
Somehow I think I missed the last couple posts in that thread until today. Campion gave me a tremendous amount of help and sent me a load of documents (thanks again!). I found out later that the whole situation was even weirder than I’d thought, with some evidence that there were even police present at the time of the murder, and a goodly percentage of a generation of kids from this small town who are kinda fucked up as a direct result of the event.
One of my best friends growing up was this nerd guy…had a sad family history and basically had to raise his younger sister alone.
He met a rather plain girl from the neighborhood and they fell in love and got married.
My friend went to the university, graduated and got a great teaching position and he and his wife had a baby girl. All was good.
Then my nerd friend suddenly lost weight, went to the gym, got buff, bought some decent clothes and, voila! He became a stud! He fell in love with one of his students.
He asked his wife for a divorce.
His wife drove off, shot and killed their five year old daughter and tried unsuccessfully to kill herself.
We had an analyst/programmer working on contract at my workplace. When he suddenly disappeared it turned out that he had been charged with murdering his best mate. I used to smoke with him outside and he seemed quite a pleasant guy although not terribly talkative.
I know at least three. One was a crime of passion. One of my teacher’s sons was trying to get out of a scary sitch with some biker friends of mine and drove away quickly, running over and killing one of the bikers. Biker’s friend killed him on the spot. I think he did 6 years.
Another one was the husband of a friend of mine. He was a real asshole and she left him for another guy. Husband tells new boyfriend he wants to get to know him due to the children, etc., kills him and drives around town with his dead body in the passenger seat for hours before someone noticed that his passenger didn’t look too lively. He did 20 years, I think.
Third one is a cousin of a friend. We spend Christmas morning with him a couple years ago.
