Do you prefer brightly lit rooms or dimly lit?

Is 160W of fluorescent lighting in a room about 4m by 4m bright?

Sunlight when it’s out, then candles/fireplace/dimmed lights.

I love natural light and I loathe artificial light, especially overhead lighting. It just makes the world look ugly and depressing and it seems to highlight any dirt or clutter. So I tend the lights off and the windows open in the day, and tolerate indirect, diffuse area lighting at night. I have a pretty large collection of artificial candles with built in timers, and when I have my way I spend most of the evening with just a few soft flickering lights.

Not only do I like my rooms brightly lit, but I like to leave a light on when the TV is on. Unfortunately, the only time I ever watch TV is when I’m with someone else, and the only person I know who also likes a light on when the TV is on is my brother.

Adequate light. Give me enough individually controlled sources and/or dimmers so that I can chose to provide enough light when there’s something I need to see to do and to cut back on usage when I don’t. If given a straight either-or, then bright wins.

And hell yeah I watch TV with the room lit. It’s my living room, not the theatre.
