Do you prefer Pizza with lots of tomato Sauce or very little?

When I visit a new Pizza Place my first concern is how much tomato sauce they put on.

I’ve always been grossed out by tomatoes. I always remove the tomato from my sandwiches. I’ll eat lasagna or spaghetti once in awhile if the tomato sauce is smooth without big nasty chunks. Otherwise I have to push the tomato chunks aside with my fork.

Godfathers Pizza had chunky pizza sauce that grossed me out. I really prefer very, very little sauce on my pizza. I had a Chicago deep dish in downtown Chicago that looked like an entire tomato crop was used in that one pizza. Really nasty and gave me the runs.

When I order a pie, I usually ask for about 3/4 the amount of cheese the place would normally put on. Unfortunately, too much sauce would make for a soggy pizza, but I love the tomato.

I would rather have too much than too little. I didn’t see a choice for Goldilocks pizza.

I voted other because I prefer pizza with a good crust and minimal toppings.

I love lots of sauce if it’s really good marinara type. It’s probably sacrilege but I love Pizza Hut pan pizza- the combo of the marinara-y sauce and the butter crust is stellar.

I’m the opposite of the OP. I love tomato sauce and usually ask for extra. I hate that most pizza places skimp on the sauce in favor of mounds of cheese.

It depends on the pizza (style, toppings, etc.)…and even then, amount of sauce =/= quality of pizza. I just want it to taste good.

Sauce is good. Don’t skimp on the sauce.

I could eat just crust and sauce if it’s good crust and sauce. I like to buy seasoned French bread loaves and make sauce myself, dousing it on and letting it soak in, then I douse it again… then toss a little cheese and pepperoni or spinach. It’s as cheap and fast as decent frozen or take-out and tastes so much better. The sauce soaks all the way through the bread to the crust.

I make my pizza with about a pound of raw diced tomatoes and spices instead of sauce.

PMP! Poor Man’s Pizza!

I always ask for light cheese and extra sauce. And cheese is one of my top 5 favorite foods. I’ll eat good cheese by itself. But a pizza I like more saucy than cheesy.

There was a Rockford Files where two thugs from Jersey had a pizza delivered to their L.A. hotel room. When it came, one of them took a bite, lifted up the cheese to look underneath and threw down the slice in disgust. He said something like, “What is this? A grilled cheese sandwich?”

Like that.

A good pizza has a little sauce spread evenly throughout each pizza slice. A great pizza has a little sauce spread evenly throughout each pizza slice and a lot of sauce concentrated near the crust of each pizza slice.

I’ve had pizzas like that. That works well for me. I can eat most of the pizza and leave the hard crust and tomato sauce behind.

This.

Christ, no option between “as much as possible” and “A little sauce please with lots of cheese and toppings?”

How about

As much as possible
A lot
Average
A little
None
I don’t care

There’s a pizza place near where I work where some of the pizzas are made with hollandaise sauce instead of tomato sauce. I always order those ones; they’re delicious.

As much sauce as makes the pizza taste good.

I mean, it depends on the sauce, it depends on the crust, it depends on the cheese. A pizza isn’t a sandwich.

I’m sure there are very good examples of either and really awful examples of either.
