Someone gave me a couple of bags of random fruits and vegetables. It included a small coconut and three limes. I used one lime for limeade. Never made it before, but the recipe of lime juice, sugar, and water was pretty foolproof. It only afterwards occurred to me to put the lime in the coconut and drink them both together. Anyone tried this? Would it be a pleasant experiment? Would bellyaches be involved in any way?
I say it would be good. If you like coconut juice.
I will not experiment with a beverage that both gives and relieves the belly ache.
Down here in the tropics and out in the islands, Mon, there are plenty of places to get a fresh coconut whacked open just for you and drunk that way or with a hefty serving of rum dumped inside. Tres yummy.
Lime (or lime-flavored rum) goes in there too about as well as peanut butter goes with jelly.
Hell yes, and then I drink them both up.
Thaaaanks for the earworm, @Darren_Garrison
I do put the lime in the coconut…and then I jump into the fire.
Surely any 2 things that together can make a cake must be OK as a drink.
Call the doctor.
Can he cure this bellyache?
Fans of A Night at the Opera know to pair it with bicarbonate-of-soda-stuffed spaghetti.
But… but, you’ll never be free — no, no.
I will confirm it is very good pairing. In the summer I like to make a drink with coconut water, coconut rum, and lime (or lemon) juice. Super refreshing on a warm night on the porch!
Lime, schlime.
FWIW, I was a kid when the song came out and I thought he was putting the LION in the coconut.
And wake him up?
Who knew that Harry would end up being a beverage influencer? I wonder if someone at Coca Cola was a fan?
Several years ago we bought my sister in law a set of tropical drink “glasses” for her birthday, that were basically plastic coconuts with a straw sticking out. We bought some limes and put a lime inside each coconut. When she opened the gift she said “Oh, these are cool! But what are the limes for? (pause…) Ohhhhh…”
Me and my Arrow drink it together.
It depends on whether your coconut is a drinking coconut or not. If the meat inside is hard enough to grate, the liquid (usually referred to as “coconut water”) is past its prime for drinking. Younger coconuts are most suitable for drinking. The meat inside should still be tender, even gelatinous toward the center, and you can scoop it out and eat it straight up with a spoon.
Not that it would be that bad to drink coconut water from an older coconut; certainly a generous squeeze of lime would improve it. It might taste a bit fermented/spoiled, though.
That was cute. And good thinking. The best presents are like that.
