Do you remember miniest rants of September?

Thank you so much to whoever decided I needed a social security card when I go to renew my driver’s license. I haven’t seen my social security card in 30 years. So now, I get to stand in line at the social security office to get a replacement card that I can carry when I stand in line at the driver’s license office. Thanks for doubling my time in line, assholes.

Marty Balin is dead and the Republicans in the Senate still live?

There is no god.

Is that a Real ID issue?

If so, I’ll be in your shoes shortly.

It is in Texas. Maybe the government in your state is smarter.

IIRC RealID follows federal rules. Currently Pennsylvania driver’s licenses do not comply with RealID, but we will soon be offered the chance to renew (at our expense).

Some idiot was speeding and texting today on my residential street, struck a wandering dog, and those of us who happened to be around stayed with the dog during her last minutes of life. I got a patio umbrella from my garage to hold over her so she would be in the shade. She had no collar and we still don’t know whose dog she was. :frowning:

Not here they’re not… My mom went to renew her drivers license and was told she couldn’t get the Real ID because her copy of her marriage license which was issued in 1972 wasn’t stamped when it was issued. Mom would have to take her marriage license down to the courthouse and get it stamped if she wanted to get the Real ID. She said forget it for now. My dad died almost 10 years ago so Mom isn’t even married anymore if you want to get technical but the license branch wouldn’t accept the marriage license.

I was lucky when I renewed mine because I took my maiden name back when I got divorced so I didn’t have to dig up a copy of my marriage license. Who knows if mine was stamped. I’ve been divorced since 2000 so I have no idea where the license is anymore. The divorce decree I have.

I guess the country is now safe from something, but I’ll be damned if I know what.

Oh yay, RealID. Ever since one of the local news stations had a feature on it a few months ago, DMV offices have been overwhelmed with people wanting to upgrade. I need to request an official copy of my birth certificate and figure out where I stashed my Social Security card; all of my Mom’s information should be easy to get together, since she applied for Social Security a couple of years ago. I really hope they get things under control though; I don’t know how many times I’ll be able to take off work to deal with this if the office is too crowded. Even though my state won’t require it until 2020, states I’m traveling to might require it sooner (if they don’t hurry up and file for extensions), so I’m starting to get concerned.

As soon as I find them again (BC and SS), I’m going to renew my passport (which I’ve also lost, but the State Department seem to have a process for that). It costs more than a RealID, I think, but it lasts for 10 years and if I have to pay extra for something to get onto a plane (I don’t know whether to scream at the TSA or my state government), I might as well get something that’s good for identification in multiple situations.

Meantime, I hate Microsoft. Which is nothing new; I’ve loathed Word for a couple of decades now.

This is a bit new for me, though, because it involves Microsoft trying to force people in using SaaS instead of owning a perpetual license. If you’re an Office 365 subscriber, you get feature updates as they come along. If you own a perpetual license, you don’t. I can sorta understand that, actually (that’s how it always used to be, you got security updates but not new features), it’s just frustrating when I use Office 365 at work and my coworker apparently doesn’t understand he *also *has to use it in order for certain things to work. Like a formula in an Excel spreadsheet that depends on a function that isn’t part of Excel 2016 (perpetual) but is with Office 365.

Looks like I’ll continue using my passport for travel.

Oh shit, I’m so sorry. Thank you for your kindness.

I’m actually considering this. I would have to go with Mom in either case; she has no patience whatsoever for waiting (especially at the DMV), and it sounds like the passport route would be less of a hassle at this point.
