Do you sleep with the bedroom door open or closed? (Canadians especially)

I sleep with it open, and I’m Canadian. I usually have the door to whatever room I’m in closed to get some privacy, but if I’m going to sleep, I haave to have it open, or it’ll bother me. I’m not sure why, though…

Canadian here. Live alone, always have bedroom door open, unless there are visitors to the apartment; then it is closed to hide the tottering piles of books and Victorian bric a brac which will one day collapse and trap me like those two brothers in Brooklyn.

If I’m staying with friends, then yeah, I close the bedroom door, more to preserve their privacy. I think as a kid (only child), I had my door closed at night.

Hell, I often wake up in the morning to find that I’ve left my apartment door not only unlocked, but ajar. But that’s the kind of place this is; we don’t fear the sudden onslaught of the Ookpik.

I keep every single door closed at all times. Open doors bug me for some reason.

I always slept with the door closed until I moved into a new condo two days ago. Now I can’t sleep with the door closed, because the door is in the living room awaiting new hinges.

It’s taking me a while to get used to it, but I’m doing okay.

Canadian: closed.

French-Canadian here. I always sleep with the bedroom door open. The only time I can remember shutting my bedroom door at all was when I was a teenager with my friends in my room, or on the phone, and I didn’t want my parents to “bother me”.

Canadian. Mrs. RickJay and I are forced to keep it closed because my sister lives with us. But when she’s gone, we’ll keep it open, as that’s easier for handling the cats.

Which oddly enough is why I sleep with it open. I am petrified of NOT being able to get out of places. You will always find me in crowded places near the door.

Thats not to say my bedroom is crowded… unless you’re cats and books.

I am Canadian… half french as well… and I always sleep with my bedroom door closed (and locked). hehe… I’m paranoid ! I figure if someone’s gonna break into my house I’ll hear them trying to open my door and they’ll make a racket and I’ll jump out the window. :stuck_out_tongue:

*[1920s Style Death Ray "Sorry, I’m not Canadian. I do sleep with the door open, but only enough to let the dog in and out (he is a bit pampered). I used to sleep with the door closed and the window open (enough to let the cat in and out).

If I had no dog/cat I would sleep with the door and window closed for perceived-privacy reasons."*

What they said - only insert *cat * for *dog*, and delete the window stuff...I'm tired...copy/paste...lol!

Ditto, except we’re American, and they stomp on my boobs.

I’m French-Canadian and I sleep with my door open most of the time. There’s something screwy with the air circulation in my apartment, and if I close my door, I wake up in the middle of the night because my room is freezing (in winter) or broiling hot (in summer). Even if the temperature thing wasn’t a problem, though, I don’t think I’d ever close my door. What’s the point? If someone else in the house will be up for a while making noise, sure, but if everyone’s in bed, I don’t see a need to lock myself in.
As a kid, I used to have the door open all the time, so I could escape if the monsters/vampires/aliens came after me.

I’m a closed-door Canuck.

At my last place, my bed was in a little addition off a proper bedroom. (I used the main room as a combination office/den.) So ordinarily, I slept behind two closed doors, except when I had the house to myself and could sleep naked on the kitchen table.

I’m not Canadian and I don’t even have a bedroom door to leave open. I live in a small loft apartment which is a very open floorplan.

Canadian here. Door open to accomodate two spoiled dogs. Well that and the vague feeling of being trapped if the door is shut.

I don’t think I could sleep with it open. I wouldn’t feel secure. Heck, I sometimes get a little freaked out over having the closet door open.

I’m American, btw, although my high school friends had it in their head that I was Canadian because they saw me eat an Aero bar once.

I’ve always slept with the door closed but no matter what room I’m in, the door has to be closed because it’s a pet peeve of mine.

Always closed. I don’t even like it being open a crack - it has to be latched. Partly because I don’t like people barging in, and also because my brother always turns on the hallway light when he comes upstairs and that would wake me up. It also helps drown out other noises like the TV in his room, someone talking on the phone, etc.

Canadian.

Door open when just me and my SO - door open just a bit (bedroom has a pocket door) for the cat when family/company stays.

Shoes off when we enter the house!

I’m not Canadian, but I sleep with the bedroom door closed. I always have the bedroom door closed if I’m in there.
