Do You Support A Team That Hasn't Won A Championship Since You've Been Following Them?

Yes, Orr was a rookie in 66-67, they won the Cup in his 3rd season. I moved to Boston in 1969 so I thought the Bruins always won for a little while there. The Celtics owned the 60s and had success in the 70s and 80s. And the Pats and Sox were perennial losers until 2001 and 2004 respectively although both teams had made it to the championship game/series before losing. Yup, spoiled rotten.

  1. That was such a fun series. The hatred I had for the As back in the day…

Southampton man here. Leicester City gives all of us hope.

I started supporting the Cubs when I came to Chicagoland in the nineties, and they didn’t win a title until a couple of years ago. I also support the Bears, and they haven’t won a title since I’ve been out here.

Buffalo Bills, so yeah. And it doesn’t look like it’s ending any time soon.

Capitals was the last I needed to win a championship. I don’t really follow the NBA, but at least tthe Terps won it all in 2002 (I don’t expect Maryland football to ever win a national championship, I’ll settle for a Big 10 title).

Non - Baltimore/Maryland rooting interests that have won: Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros.

Since I recently adopted MN United, yeah. It’s been a minute since the Red Wings, Bulls, and Braves won their titles, but the Packers most recently brought a trophy back to Titletown less than a decade ago.

I’m a Packer fan; I’m too young to remember the Lombardi Era, and I followed the team through the decades in the wilderness. But, I’ve been rewarded by two Super Bowl wins in the past 21 years, and a team that’s been consistently competitive.

On the other hand, I’m also a Brewers fan. They lost in their only World Series appearance (and that was 36 years ago), and they’ve been bad far more often than they’ve been good since.

2011 was supposed to be the year! I hate the Cardinals soooooooo much.

I came in here to say pretty much exactly what’s quoted above. I’ll add to it that my alma mater, while division I in everything, is too small to ever win a championship.

Be happy, sometimes getting to the championship is just the universe getting ready to kick you in the nads. I got so many condolence calls after the Falcons choked away the Super Bowl I began to wonder if I was mentally unstable.

ETA: I was already not a fan of the Patriots, now I hate them with heat of a thousand suns.

Nats fan, because I’d rather have an MLB in town that chokes in the playoffs than have to drive to Baltimore for MLB baseball.

I support the Las Vegas Knights and we haven’t won a championship yet in all the 10 months we’ve been playing in the NHL.

I was a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan starting in 1977, when my family moved to Ft. Lauderdale. Of course all my new neighbors and school friends were Miami fans, but I already didn’t like the Dolphins so I jumped on the still-new Bucs bandwagon. 2002 was (finally) an awesome year!

The Toronto Blue Jays are the only team I follow that HAVE won a championship. Still waiting for the Raptors and Senators.

Texas Rangers fan since 1977. Weep for me.

I’ve celebrated all of my Detroit teams’ championships, except the Lions. But I don’t know if you can even really call me a “Lions fan.” Sure I sorta hope they don’t lose most Sundays, but not enough to make much noise for those three hours.

I’m 43, and if I live another 43 years wouldn’t be surprised if I could copy and paste those two sentences on my deathbed.

Texas Rangers fan here; they’ve never won a World Series. Came agonizingly close in 2011, when they were twice just one out away from the championship.

Dallas Cowboys fan as well - I only really started following them in 1999. They’ve won a grand total of two playoff games since.

Detroit Lions- oh well.

If you look at college sports, then if your “team” consists of all teams that represent the school, then most schools are going to win something several times per decade. Michigan State basketball and hockey, to name two. MSU baseball, on the other hand, has to face the same uphill battle that all Big Ten baseball teams face.

Indians fan here, but only since 2010, so my suffering has not been particularly long. Combined with being a Dodgers fan since the age of 10, however, I’ve had back-to-back years of losing Game 7 of the World Series, which is not as much fun as it sounds like.

The Redskins have been brutally awful since my teenage years, but I did get to live through a couple of Super Bowl wins.

The Nationals haven’t been here long but have already embarked upon a tradition of postseason disappointment.

The Capitals sustained one of the most maddening runs of playoff collapse for the longest time, but they finally got the monkey off their back.

Washington DC doesn’t have professional basketball, so I’ve had to follow the Wizards. They won a title (as the Bullets) the last year I was too young to pay attention to sports, and since then they have ranged from catastrophic up to underperforming.

I’ve been a Rockies fan since 1993. They went to the World Series in 2007 where they were swept by Boston, outside of that they’ve been pretty abysmal.

I’ve been a D-Backs fan since 1998. They did win the Series in 2001. They’ve won five Western Division titles in their history, but they haven’t won the NL pennant again.
