Yeah, I care about what y’all say to me. (I think I’m overly sensitive IRL too.) And I feel as if I know you, though I obviously don’t. So what if my social life is largely imaginary!
Yes, I take things to heart here more than I should.
Hmmmm. Do I take it to heart?
Well, I sometimes find it useful. I’ve had more than a few questions answered in GQ by people who have expertise in areas I do not. Or hearing different perspectives regarding subjects in CS.
I sometimes find it educational. I’ve learned a lot in both GQ and GD. Whether I agree with a viewpoint or not in GD, it is always enlightening.
I sometimes find it entertaining. The social fora in particular. People talk about things that never come up in conversation amongst the people I hang out with.
I sometimes find it rewarding. I’ve actually helped a few people find the answer to their question.
I sometimes find it exasperating. Especially closed minded people.
I sometimes find it comforting. The warm and gentle well wishes sent my way when my mother passed away were more appreciated than I expected.
So I guess the answer is yes, I do take it to heart. Sometimes.
I frequent the “comments on columns” boards for enlightenment, or to enlighten. Otherwise, I stick to MPSIMS and IMHO for enertainment and amusement. However, I think some people are more open and honest there, so I can learn something - if only that some people have more fun with grocery carts than I ever will.
I hardly ever visit the other boards.

I don’t think I really take anything to heart though.
Sometimes I certainly do, pehaps more than I should. There was a situation more recent than the one NCB describes (PLEASE DON’T BRING UP NAMES OR DETAILS) where I took everything personally and rather took things to heart.
Like Ice Wolf, I do care about quite a few of the people on here… even if we’ve never met in real life, or are not likely to.

Seriously, as a newcomer I usually take what I read here at face value. However I do get offended, and I post on subjects in haste at times. But as far as taking the board to heart…no. I read what I find interesting in my spare time and close the browser when I’m done.
