I mean what is he going to talk about now? Don’t get me wrong I like his show. I have really listened to it alot more than I usually do because of all this wacko stuff going on. But now what is the point?
Anyway I was just wondering if he was secretly hoping Gore would win so he could really have something to talk about for the next 4 years?
I think you have that right. Now he’s an entertainer with no current material, and he can’t keep up his ratings with just a constant stream of Hillary jokes. Now, look for him to demonize any Democrat in the close House minority or the Senate co-majority who doesn’t roll over for the conservative agenda instead.
Or maybe he saw this coming, and tried for that Monday Night Football slot as a career move. If (er, when, rather) Dennis Miller gets dumped after this season, that may still happen.
Don’t start worrying, yet! I was listening today (purely out of curiosity, believe me) and Rush was going on about how there’s a conspiracy within the electoral college and they’re all going to rebel and vote for Gore!
Then he babbled on about how he had plenty of material during Bush I’s reign.
Come on. Limbaugh started nationally in '88 or so, during the Bush-Dukakis race. When Bush won THEN, people were saying it was all over for Rush. His audience grew steadily during Bush Sr.'s administration. Rush offers commentary on current popular culture…I hardly think the occupant of the White House, whatever the Party, is going to have much effect on his popularity…
Not very likely. If I remember correctly, there are penalties in a lot of states that electors can face if they vote for a candidate other than the one they were mandated for. Fines and imprisonment may be involved.
But again–that’s just if I recall correctly.
It might be kinda creepy if it happened. It would only take about 3 electors to switch sides.
I used to listen to Limbaugh a lot, and really enjoyed his show.
Used to. Stopped listening when it became too obvious that in Rush’s world, there’s no such thing as a good Democrat or a bad Republican. The real world of politics is hardly that simple. I prefer a little more balance and objectivity in the political analysis that I hear. Unfortunately, that’s hard to find.
I don’t think he’s disappointed at all. He’ll just shift gears to talking about Senator Clinton and other prominent Democrats.
Rush has always maintained that his success is not determined by who wins elections. There’s a whole chapter about it in one of his books; I have no reason to doubt him on this point. Hell, I started listening to him during the Bush I administration. I’m sure he’ll find plenty to talk about, regardless of who occupies the Oval Office.
Yeah, but they’re just not BILL! They’re small potatoes and he’s used to chowing down on sirloin.
No, I fear/hope he’ll go the way of Yakov Smirnoff and do standup in Branson the rest of his life.
Ahem, how could anybody with a brain in his head, regardless his political beliefs, listen to that loudmouth for more than ten minutes without gagging?
Christ, I wish more people were like you SG, and would realize what BS these extemists (both conservative and liberal) are spewing with their knee-jerk reactions to whatever the opposing team says or does.
Actually, I started listening during Bush Sr.'s presidency. I seem to remember when Clinton was elected people had similar arguments but inverted. They thought he would be crushed by a Republican loss and somehow it marked the end of his show. I think a lot of people just are hopeful that he will quit (probably don’t actually listen)

He obviously doesn’t listen well. Rush did go on about this in an obviously sarcastic way … In response to a paranoid caller who thought Gore would steal electors.
Limbaugh has stated, and I think it is true, that the extreme liberals are much more hilarious when their party is out of power. So we can expect great material (and indeed it has already begun) from the likes of Jesse Jackson. Comparing the Supreme Court decision to Dredd Scott. Whew. I have no doubt that we will get lots of good HILLARY! stuff.
It has been my understanding that Rush’s “America held hostage” thing is a reference to the fact that Clinton didn’t get a “mandate,” that is, at least 50% of the vote. If this is so, will he do the right thing and start a new “America Held Hostage” count with Bush’s presidency? I mean, non only did he not get a majority of the popular vote, he got less of the popular vote than Gore, and so logic would dictate . . .
And Rush is nothing if not logical (sarcasm).
I’m sure Rush will survive, as many people have pointed out, he was still on the air when Bush the Elder (I like that way of putting it: it brings up images of ancient Rome) was President. It’ll be interesting to see whether this changes the level of success of his show; I think a lot of people may tune in to hear criticism of Clinton and Gore, and criticism of less prominent Democrats and other liberals will have less mass appeal.
I guess I won’t find out, though, since I don’t listen to his show.
