Do you?
I’ve never tipped at McDonalds because wherever I’ve been I’ve followed an unwritten convention that you don’t tip at fast food restaurants. Don’t you think that this is unfair? Why tip the bartender at the bar but not the staff at the McDonalds counter who serves you a burger and a drink?
McDonald’s employees aren’t dependent on tips for income. They get paid minimum wage already.
Maybe if they didn’t put lettuce on my friggin filet o fish…
Exactly. When you’re living that high on the hog, all a tip does is give them something to light their cigar with.
Unfair - yes, but because we wrongly tip the bartender, it doesn’t mean that we should also wrongly tip the burger flipper.
Wow, I can’t think of a statement that is more heartless, then get paid the minimum possiable by law and you don’t care enough to help them out.
Should the minimum-wage earner who goes to McD’s tip the staff at McD’s?
Excuse me? I’m heartless because I don’t think someone deserves a tip for standing there and pushing a few buttons before handing me a bag of food?
Wow. Do you also tip the cashier at the grocery for scanning all your purchases? What about the guy in the tollbooth on the highway? The guy at the gas station who hands you a pack of cigarettes or a lottery ticket?
Tips are for people who serve you. Fast food workers don’t serve you, they hand you a product in a bag. Do you tip the guy at the record store?
I believe there’s a corpoarte no tipping policy at McD’s.
From here
I can’t imagine tipping at McDonalds.
Yes you are. This people would be slaves, if not for the meager money that the gov’t forces the business owner to pay them. Not helping them out is just like supporting slavery.
I use self checkout, so this doesn’t apply.
Normally I curse them out, but they make quite a bit, this job around here is rewarded to people by polititions and is very cushy, yes I also curse the tax man who comes around to take the money from me to pay this people.
So? You tip at fast food? Do you tip just the cashier or do you flip them an extra buck and say “give this to the chef”?
Basically I tip anywhere where the service would be different person to person. There’s no such thing as exceptional service at a fast food joint. They aren’t allowed enough freedom to earn a tip. If a waiter at a restaurant would act like the McDonalds clerk I wouldn’t tip them either.
… yeah! EXACTLY the same.
In my experience, many fast food companies prohibit their employees from accepting tips.
Life is unfair. That is why bras come in different sizes.
This is so outlandish I’m having trouble believing you’re serious.
Except for, you know, the ability to leave when they feel like it.
Do I tip at McDonalds? Hell no. They haven’t anything to earn it. All they do is stand there, smile, and press a few buttons before handing me a bag. THey haven’t earned a tip.
We’re not worthy…
I think the point being made is that restaurant servers are allowed by law to be paid considerably less than minimum wage because it is assumed by the employer and the IRS that the difference will be made up in tips.
Of course, the law requires that if the difference is not made up in tips, the employer will.
