We generally try to have a piece of fruit or two for dessert and that usually happens a few times a week. Occasionally, we’ll have something special like pie, but it’s usually tied to a holiday or some special event.
Well, it depends on how you would define dessert.
I usually end my evening meal (and sometimes it is my whole meal) with some fruit and yogurt. Does it count as dessert if it’s good for you?
As far as prepared desserts go, usually only when I entertain. As a TypeII living by myself, any company leftover desserts tend to go home with my guests. If they don’t, I take them to work to share.
I’ll be right over. I think we need to compare and contrast the benefits of Sauternes/Bucheron with a good vintage Champagne and Brillat-Savarin.
Also in the running: good Burgundy with Époisses, but I have yet to find an Époisses in the US that doesn’t taste like piss. Literally - every Époisses I’ve found here has had ammonia overtones so strong that it ruins the cheese. So we’ll have to wait on that until we go to France.
My sister who lives with me has a wicked sweet tooth, and a few times a month, she’ll say something like “Let’s have dessert tonight; I’ll buy”, and we’ll get a pie and some ice cream or something like that. Usually not, though. We like to let dinner settle a couple of hours, then if we want a little something sweet, we’ll have it at bed time.
I usually have baked treats in the kitchen, so after dinner my husband will grab something to have as dessert. But I don’t go out of my way to make something unless it’s a special occasion or we have dinner guests.
Growing up, my family never had dessert. When I visited my then-boyfriend-now-husband’s house, they would always have wine with the meal and dessert with dinner, which was totally bizarre to me. Even when it was just family they would have dessert - sometimes just cheese and crackers, but always something.
I wonder if Hyacynth servers desert and I can assure you it’s prononunced “BOO-Kay”
My family’s heavy meal is lunch (that’s the custom in Spain, plus we now have several people whose stomach problems favor light dinners); dessert is optional, and most commonly consists of fruit. Prepared desserts are considered a special treat (and still optional).
Only on Sundays (When we have the in laws round) and Thursdays (When we go to the in laws)
Does beer count as a desert? I’ll have a post dinner beer. Beers can be sweet.
Never had dessert growing up, and I never developed much of a sweet tooth so I don’t do it now.
I usually eat dessert a couple hours after eating dinner, never directly after. I don’t really know why, it was just a habit I developed.
No, unless you count a piece of fruit.
Nah, desserts are for dinner parties, not for dinner.
If any baking has been done, it may be enjoyed later in the evening, but not as a conclusion of a meal.
Not since I was a kid, but I’ll eat something sweet in the evening from time to time.
