Do you want killdozers? Because this is how you get killdozers.

I have no idea what the political affiliation of the mayor / city councils is in these cities, but they are the ones I’d blame for it, in the same way that I’d blame the city government if it decided to turn crocodiles loose on their residents, and not so much the crocodiles themselves for doing crocodile things and eating people.

I will be delighted if this gets fixed.

What? You’re blaming the local administration for the exploitive actions of its subcontractor, rather than the subcontractor itself?
That would be like blaming Florida for Zimmerman’s application of its Stand Your Ground law, rather than blaming Zimmerman (or the law itself).

Ahh…good point, and a fine analogy. By definition, capitalists must exploit-for-profit, after all…

Forgive my cynicism, but if the firm loses its contract immediately, we’ll see news of it; if someone at the firm becomes unemployed, we’ll hear news of it; more likely this matter will fade behind something more spectacular in the news and the firm’s contract will either be renewed or not and none of us Dopers will be informed (or even care enough to know) about it. Otherwise, I guess, we wouldn’t consider the original article to be Mundane & Pointless.
