It’s high time we outlawed bulldozers in this country! Imagine what one could do in the hands of a terrorist!
I just heard about this from my mom, who lives in a small town in Colorado. She says they are reporting it slightly differently there. It seems this guy was in a fight with the local planning commission and he feels he got screwed. The buildings he took out were all buildings involved in the dispute, and noone got hurt. My mom has had several fights with her local planning commission over the years, and a couple of them cost her pretty dearly so she is fully sympathetic. She wonders where she can get a bulldozer (I don’t think they rent them to blind people) And she might contribute to his defence fund. Even she concedes that this is a poor way to resolves conflicts.
It is entirely possible that she conceived this interpretation in her head so I can’t come up with a cite
Oops I guess it’s smaller numbers for smaller size not bigger.
Is it wrong that my first thought upon seeing “whack-job with a bulldozer in Colorado” was “what, again?”
Here’s a link to a more detailed story.
Motivation is as furlibusea’s mum said.
Also, the guy might be dead, but they’re not sure because he’s welded the cab enclosure shut from the inside, the scamp.
Does this really need to be in the pit?
Well, they just showed this on the late lo-cal news here. They ended the story saying the dozer ran out of steam and was surrounded by a SWAT team–no word on the fate of the moron.
He also ran over several cars in his rampage, and I’m sure they didn’t ALL belong to council members. Oh well, it’s pretty horrible but at least he didn’t go the spray-City-Hall-with-gunfire-and-let-God-sort-em-out route.
So the driver is still inside the bulldozer and can’t be seen?
Furlibusea, when you talked to your mother, was she on a cell phone by any chance?
Well, she does have a cell phone…
I sort of had a fit of the giggles trying to imagine her welding
Well, the idiot is dead.
Good.
He was upset that a new zoning regulation allowed a concrete plant to expand around his business instead of purchasing his business. The properties he destroyed belonged to members of the zoning board who voted “against him”.
One less loser in the world.
Oh yeah, condolences to his family, etc.
Eh. I say good for him, in a way. It’s like that movie “Falling Down” only he didn’t go shooting people for no good reason.
They let a concrete company build around his business instead of buying him out? Gosh, that does sound like a crappy decision by the zoning board.
I’ll admit that the dark side of my soul snickered ever so slightly at his vigilantism.
It’s been done before. I’ve seen examples where a person didn’t want to sell their house to a developer and they built a skyscraper completely around the house.
“Ah crap…I said the soft part loud and the loud part soft.”
Mine too…I mean, the guy armor plated a bulldozer.
Well, this is a new take on the 21st Century version of the American Dream: to finally crack and go out in a splashy, sucidal rampage. You gotta give him points for style. Welding yourself into a hommade armored bulldozer and running over the mayor’s house? Who here hasn’t wanted to do that–or, more accurately, who here upon hearing of it didn’t say “Damn, I wish I had thought of that!”
But he shouldn’t have run over the library. That was uncalled for.
Oh sure.
“A guy who went berzerk”.
That’s what They want you to think!
When, in reality, this LINK leads us to the terrible Truth!
The horror…the reconfigurable horror…!
“Transformers - psychos in disguise…”
The library was collateral damage. It was on the bottom floor of the town hall. I sympathize especially with the owner of the local paper whose building was also destroyed. The biggest story ever in Granby, and he’s got no way to print it!
While I’m here, I would like to issue a great big “fuck you” to Channel 4, which spent hours last evening saying the same things over and over and over, and showing the same tape over and over and over, and just in general acting like all the guesswork and speculation was actually news. “Here’s a picture of a bulldozer. Here’s a map of Colorado showing where Granby is. Here’s a picture of a bulldozer again. Here’s the map again.” Give me a fucking break! Thank goodness Channel 13 showed The Simpsons as usual.
After getting your vengeance, why not have some fun? I would have gone for the water tower. I think it would look really neat to knock one over, full of water. Especially if you did it like felling a tree, and got it to go in a specific direction. Bonus if it was like the water tower in Fort Dodge (http://wikkit.com/tc_pht/ftd2.jpg, http://wikkit.com/tc_pht/ftd1.jpg) with lots of metal bits to go sproinging off as it fell over.
