The pictures are pretty impressive. For a random, senseless act of destruction this ranks pretty high. That poor truck will never be the same.

Bulldozer rampage demolishes one house, flattens truck in Washington

A Washington man fed up with his neighbors went on a bulldozing rampage on Friday, damaging four homes, knocking one off its foundation and cutting power to thousands of people.

Barry Swegle, 51, had a long-running dispute with his neighbors over a fence line he felt was too close to his home in Port Angeles, west of Seattle, and simply ‘went nuts,’ neighbors aid.

Mr Swegle was arrested on Friday on charges of malicious mischief following the incident.

Thankfully this guy wasn’t quite as crazy or angry. The reports don’t mention any issues arresting him.

I can understand his frustration. Neighbor problems are the pits. Guess this time it just boiled over.

By issues I meant he didn’t resist arrest. He knocked a few houses down and went to jail.

The other guy Der Trihs mentioned nearly took out a Swat team and committed suicide to avoid arrest. A much more tragic story.

I know a couple who were going through a divorce and the guy did this sorta thing to the house that his ex was likely going to be awarded. He used a front end loader/tractor to bust through windows and walls, dumping loads of composted horse manure into the building.

IIRC, there was also an episode of Malcolm in the Middle in which Hal got hold of a steamroller and did some damage.

Hmm. Now that Bryan Cranston (who played Hal) is on Breaking Bad, I’m wondering if they’ll do a shout out to that episode in Breaking Bad.

Way OT, and I’m sorry about that, but I first thought on seeing the thread title that José (pronounced dzozé) Bové might have been back. Remember that guy? I think he might have been a Basque separatist, but definitely an anarchist, but he would frequently make the news when he and his confederates dismantled McDonald’s after McDonald’s somewhere in France.

PORT ANGELES — A neighbor of Barry Swegle’s said the two had argued in the past about the line between their properties before today’s rampage that destroyed two of the neighbor’s houses.

Dan Davis, 74, and others told of a man on heavy machinery tearing into homes, rolling over a pickup truck and smashing through a portion of Gales Addition east of town.

Barry Alan Swegle, 51, was being held Saturday in the Clallam County jail for investigation of malicious mischief in the first degree.

Davis said Swegle had driven past Davis’ property Friday morning and made obscene gestures at him.

Then between 11:30 a.m. and noon, according to multiple witness accounts, Swegle allegedly got into a logging bulldozer — parked on Swegle’s property a stone’s throw east of Davis’ lot — and drove west along a dirt alleyway toward a manufactured home on Davis’ property.

Davis said he had been working on this house in preparation for putting it up for rent.

Davis said that as Swegle traveled west, he lowered the bulldozer’s blade and drove through a portion of Davis’ chain-link fence, taking out a buried phone line and destroying the house’s connection to nearby power lines.

Davis said Swegle then turned the bulldozer around and headed east, plowing into the manufactured home on Davis’ property and pushing it completely off its foundation and into a neighboring house.

Chris Main, who lives across East Pioneer Road to the south of Davis’ property, said Swegle then backed the bulldozer up and demolished Davis’ Ford F-250 pickup truck, knocking over a power pole before heading east again.

“That was a sight to behold,” said neighbor and witness Phil Riley, describing the bulldozer backing up three times over Davis’ truck.
