Do you want the Jets in the Superbowl?

I picked the Vikings/Colts as my superbowl match up at the start of the playoff so no I don’t want the Jets to win I want $200.

Besides that I like Payton Manning and the Colts org in general so I tend to cheer for them.

That’s Night Train Lane, thank you very much! :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, you mean Bobby Layne. I get it. Come back with someone famous enough for your team that you can spell the name.

<d&r>

@ FGIE: Not a single one of the quarterbacks on that list produced anything like a decent set of years with the Lions. Nor does any quarterback on that list, with the possible exceptions of Jon Kitna and Don Majkowski, have a record of being decent elsewhere. And I will assert that Kitna’s one good year with the Bengals was mostly in spite of him (he NEVER did anything worthwhile at the Seahawks), and Majkowski’s one good year with the Packers was a fluke, which is why we ended up having to wait for Favre to rescue us from obscurity. And finally, you will note that, of the two names I’ve just mentioned, both had their good years before coming to the Lions. No one who was a Lion cast-off has managed to excel anywhere else.

Folks, that’s not just the fault of the surrounding cast. That’s the fault of having really, really poor ability to judge quarterbacking talent.
Ok, I’ll let you have that Scott Mitchell wasn’t terrible. He at least didn’t drag Barry Sanders down with him…

To my knowledge, no head coach for the Lions has ever had a head coaching job in the league afterwards. So it’s not just quarterbacks that we churn up and spit out, useless and unwanted.

The irony of the Colts being eliminated from the playoffs by the team they allowed into the playoffs because they couldn’t be arsed to try to win a game would be rather delicious.

Jeff Garcia was a very good quarterback. After his short stint in Detroit he led the Eagles to a playoff win over the Giants.

Yep I’m hoping for the Jets so that the Colts has to pay the universe tax for being a pussy.

That’s exactly my point. Some of those QB’s had reasonable success elsewhere. Joe Montana wouldn’t have succeeded in the Lions regime, because they cared more about wideouts than offensive linemen.

That applied under Matt Millen’s reign of terror, though.

I forgot about that. Understandably, I forgot his Detroit performance. That’s the only one.
Also when Joey Harrington was backup for the Dolphins and he beat the Lions in Detroit, that didn’t make anyone in the city very happy.

Dave Krieg? 12-4 and a wildcard win in '84, Pro Bowl 3 times, 13th all-time in passing yards, 12th in completions.

That sounds at least decent to me.

As if the Steelers have always been the best team from the conference when they got into the Super Bowl. Sometimes luck, timing, destiny, whatever you want to call it play a part.

I don’t particularly want the Jets in the Super Bowl, but if they get in they get in. Heck, they might win it. Quit your whining.

Don’t care too much one way or the other about the Jets, although it’s always nice to see an underdog get the win. The main reason i’m rooting for them today is that i would root for a team of recently-convicted child molesters if they were playing against Indianapolis.

And judging by your location, there may be some of that “I want the team that beat my team to win it all to validate how good my team is/was” going on too…which I can empathize with, being a Bengals fan and all.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the Jets in the Super Bowl. I usually hate New York teams but there’s something different about the Jets. Maybe it’s Namath. Maybe it’s because they’re not jammed down our throats like the Yankees or Giants. Maybe it’s this video of Jets draft screwups.

Stop using facts to destroy my footballing logic here. Don’t you know that factual arguementation is verboten in the Game Room!!!:mad::mad::mad:

Actually, despite my location, i’m a Ravens fan. Which might explain my feelings about Indianapolis.

Although the Chargers have become my second team since i moved to San Diego, and the Jets winning it all would probably ease a few hearts here in San Diego, for the reasons that you suggest.

The Ravens, Bengals and Chargers all failed to show up in the playoffs.

A 36-year old Dave Krieg played for the Lions for one year and guided them to a majestic 5-2 record through 7 games. After that, he went 4-12 and 6-6 and then never didn’t start for the last two games of his career.

That, however, doesn’t invalidate your post or anything.

The Ravens at least played one solid game. And the Chargers take every January off, whether or not they’re eliminated.

Dude…the Ravens scored all of 3 points against the Colts, whom aren’t known for great defense…and Joe Flacco had been the more recent example of rookie dick-sucking by the media until they found Mark Sanchez.

“Of course we all know how great the Ravens (Jets) defense is, the real story is this young quarterback that has led this offense to such great…blah blah blah” and neither of them is really all that good. Really.
