This is different than Senorbeefs thread about SB picks.
This is a thread to ask what team you would like to see win if your favorite team doesn’t make it.
My favorite team is the Steelers, but if the Steelers don’t win it, I’ll be rooting for Detroit. That is a football population that has been starved for decades for a championship.
I think that if the Steelers are bounced out, I will root for the Giants. I’m not sure yet. My backup team used to be the Packers, but for some reason not so much lately.
Hello, my name is Intergalactic Gladiator and I’m a Bears fan.
Were it the Lions of late last year and earlier this year, I would be pulling for them. Since they’ve shown themselves to be a bunch of chippy, obnoxious bungholes lead by a chippy, obnoxious bunghole, I can’t root for them. I’m leaning towards the 49ers now. I have no love for them, but I do appreciate Jim Harbaugh. Yes, I do realize how that sounds within the context of what I said about the Lions. I also like New Orleans and I’m OK with them going to the Super Bowl.
I can’t think of anyone on the AFC side that I would cheer for, I wouldn’t want to root for Pittsburgh, Baltimore, or New England, and I think it would be rediculous of me to root for Denver. Maybe I’ll side with Houston – it’s they’re first time in.
Additionally, since I’m a Bears fan. I wouldn’t mind seeing Green Bay go all the way to the Super Bowl but then lose it to the AFC team, since the Super Bowl losers often have a collapse then next season.
Packer fan (and season ticket holder, and stock owner ). I’ve always liked the Steelers (their dork QB excepted), and I like Brees and the Saints quite a bit, too.
If Denver wins this week, you will hear a big boom in western PA. And Pittsburgh will be gone.
Not that Denver can’t win. But with Tebow, they can’t. I don’t care that the Steelers have injuries and their QB is a statue. If One of Denver’s rb’s or wr’s tosses a TD pass, fine. But if the Steelers let Tebow beat them with that thing hanging down on his left side that looks like an arm, they will never live it down.
If the Giants don’t win, I’d frankly prefer that one of the obvious teams wins: Patriots, Packers, or Saints. If there’s going to be a feisty underdog story this year, I want it to be Blue.
I’d be rooting for the Lions too, IF there were different players and a different coach. I’ve come to dislike Schwartz and think he’s an arrogant, whiny assbag who created a team mindset of thuggery. I think Suh is a cheapshot artist and that too many players on that team are idiots. While I like Megatron and a couple other players, by and large I’ve come to hope that they get there ass handed to them and Schwartz goes home whining the entire way.
I’m rooting for the Broncos, even though I don’t think they have a chance in hell. I also would like to see the Texans go to the Super Bowl just because of all the injuries they’ve had to overcome.
You know, that’s an excellent point, even though the Lions are our division rivals. I always like it when a team makes it to the Super Bowl (or the World Series) which hasn’t ever been there before (or not for a long time). And, the Lions are one of only two pre-1995 teams (the Browns are the other) which has never been to the Super Bowl.
If my 49ers are eliminated, and I don’t think they will be, then I’ll pick the remaining team furtheest removed from a Super Bowl win. Never the Patriots or Steelers, screw them.
You make some valid points about the Lions. Still, I really like Stafford, and any real Lions fan can’t even remember their last championship. They’ve never even been to a SB (I’m not even sure they’ve ever been in an NFC championship game). and their last playoff win was in 1992. Almost 20 years! Geez, you’d think they were the Cowboys! <zing!>
I do agree with you about Shwartz. Whiner supremo. And Suh has lost his marbles somewhere… but I won’t punish the rest of the team or an entire city. I only feel that way about Baltimore and the Ravens. As long as Ray Lewis is in the league, there is at least one person more criminal than Suh.
If it were just Suh, I’d be much more willing to overlook it, but the Lions lead the entire NFL in personal fouls, and it isn’t even close (they had 28, 7 more than the nearest team). It’s an entire team thing (a result, I believe, of Schwartz’s “coaching”), not just one bad guy. Gosder Cherilus, Titus Young, Brandon Pettigrew, Stefan Logan, and others have all been flagged for personal fouls and after the whistle shots.
Sure I feel bad for their fans, and I feel bad for the Raider fans having to put up with Al Davis’ insanity too. But no way do I want those kinds of teams to win a championship, no matter how starved their fans are.
