I figured that maybe now that I love playing golf I might enjoy watching it, too.
Nope. Still boring as hell.
People will say, “Don’t you watch to learn stuff?” What the hell am I gonna learn from Tiger Woods? If anything it’s just frustrating. “Here’s a bunch of people playing a game way better than you ever will. Isn’t that a lovely place to play, which you can’t afford and aren’t welcome at anyway?”
I do like watching that cute little reality competition show on the Golf Channel, but you can learn a lot more from that. (Mostly about what assholes these people are, but hey.)
I love “The Big Break”! What a great cast - nice catty hot women, and some really whacked out men, especially the New Age Canadian guy. The fat guy can golf the ball. They should have brought back the older African American guy with no teeth who hits every shot cross-handed. I’d break my arms if I tried that.
I keep forgetting to watch the one they’ve got on now. I watched the one with the women last time, though - I love what a pack of bitches they are.
It’s fun to watch, though, because you don’t usually see “good but not Tour golfers” on TV. These people have to win tournaments to get on the show, but they make the same dumb mistakes I do, all the time.
Golf fascinates me completely between the months of May and September, after which a little “cold outside” switch goes off in my brain and I lose all interest until spring.
In December you could offer me a free trip to Florida to play and I’d say, “meh.”
In June, I routinely run out of my office in the afternoon to get in a good round of twilight, at the expense of dinner and my social life.
The one thing I’ve found about golf is that if you like it, you *really really really * like it. If you don’t care for it, it’s meh. It’s also still a mostly gentlemanly game, meaning the players are responsible for calling their own fouls and playing honestly. You won’t see Tiger spitting on the shoes of the PGA official.
A couple years ago my wife walked into the back room where I was watching TV. Golf was on, I had a baseball game on the radio and was reding a Sports Illustrated. She looked around ,shook her head and walked away.
I have been playing golf for 50 years ,so yes I follow it.
