Do you watch Video Game intros?

In another thread it was asked which Video Games had intros better than the games themselves. Which led me to ask: How many of you even watch the intro?

I do not.

Mods, wasn’t sure if the was Cafe or IMHO. But it is a poll so I put it here.

Always. I’t s just eye candy generally, but I like eye candy.

I watch it all the way through. The first time. After that, I skip it.

I have been known to start a game just to watch the intro, and listen to the music. Some intros are not worth watching, but I’ll always watch it through at least the first time. I get myself a great drink and maybe a snack, and sit down, and slip the game into the puter or console, and prepare to enjoy the experience. There’s nothing quite like anticipating a game, and then finally getting it and watching the intro.

I’ll watch any intro at least the first time. Wether I watch it again depends on how good it is and if I’m willing to wait an extra minute or so to play the game.

Intros I tend not to watch again are ones that are little more then clips from gameplay edited together, like Call of Duty or C&C Generals. Also something fairly useless, like the Title sequence for Birth of the Federation.

Something really cinematic and moodsetting, like C&C Red Alert 2, I’ll sometimes fire up the game just to watch it, or the intro to pretty much any of the lucasarts games.

Why wouldn’t I? Intros generally set up the story and provide a few clues how to play. Once I’ve started a game I just go to my last save point and pick up where I left off.

If I restart the game from the beginning then I watch the intro again since I know more about the story I can catch little things I missed the first time.

I turn up the volume, turn off the lights and watch the intro all the way trough. It really inhances the play for a new game that you’ve anticapated. I enjoyed all the props that game with the games in the early years.

Every single time. Even games I don’t intend to play very much. I’ll play a lot of first-person shooters over our LAN but never alone, but I’ll still watch the intros.

I pay attention to the intro the first couple of times, then after that skip through it as fast as possible to get to the action. Y’know, like sex.

What?

I couldn’t play a game if I didn’t watch the intro. For me, the intro sets the mood for the entire game, gives background story, and shows me the “world” I’m about to embark in. I usually only watch it once, but sometimes I watch it more than that.

The first time, always. If it’s a good one, I’ll watch it a few more times when I play later. The really, really good ones I show to my friends. I got the collector’s edition to World of Warcraft, which came with the intro movie on a DVD. Looked even better on my HD widescreen than it did on my 'puter screen. First month or so after I got the game, just about anyone who came over to my house got treated to a viewing.

Sometimes, I’m tempted to get Blizzard games just for the cut scenes.

When I was playing Thief a lot, I’d always watch the intro before a session to get in the mood. Almost became a ritual.

I always watch the end game credits.

Call of Duty 2 had this in the credits:

“No cows were harmed during the making of this game.”

So all the dead cows on the battlefields were just acting.

All the games I’m willing to play have some kind of story or plot element to them. That’s a big part of the game that appeals to me. So I always watch the intro at least once - it’s like the prolog of a book for me. I may or may not watch it on subsequent playings - depending on how good it was, how long, and whether I think there will be more clues in there I didn’t understand before.

I watch them at least once. For the setup and depending on the game you can see demonstrations of how to accomplish certain tasks. (Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory I am looking at you, you gorgeous game you.)

At least the once. Some I watch nearly every time.

I actually reinstalled Fallout just to watch the intro movie

I watch all of them at least once. The better ones I watch again. Katamari Damacy gets replayed just because of the music.

I always saved just before a mission end so I could watch the intros whenever I wanted.

The only reason I play computer games is for the eye candy. When I bought Half Life 2, for example, I watched all the intros. In fact, I played the entire game in God mode so I could wander around the pretty scenery without those pesky bad guys killing me.

Friends have expressed shock and dismay. I don’t care

Yep. I love them. Watch them almost every time, especially for RPGs. Some of the Final Fantasy intros almost seem longer than some of the non-FF games I’ve played. It’s like renting a movie
