Does anyone here write for fun (or even seriously)? One of my Internet contributions is an interactive (for lack of a better description) storyboard, and since the mores the merrier, feel free to visit and join in if writing stories with others is something that interests you too. http://pub45.ezboard.com/binteractivestories18786
Hopeful writers and/or people who have a sense of humor mostly frequent the board. Most of the writers are young, in their teens or twenties, too, but hopefully that doesn’t bother you. And someday, we’ll actually get around to finishing a story, instead of having them go on forever…
Anyway, I’m guessing that at least a few people here write, so I hope this thread doesn’t annoy too many people.
I wrote a play in high school that went to competition and won an honorable mention. Poetry for several years around that same time.
Now finally at work on my first novel. I held off for a long time because I didn’t want to write a novel until I felt that I had at least 2 novels in me.
I write. I write a lot. I write my ass off (literally… I’ve had to glue the damn thing back on several times).
Short stories, long stories, goofy stories, essays about life, rants about suckiness, songs, poetry, short biographies of friends… it’s all on my webpage (YOU find out where).
I seem to be writing all the time. I write poetry (especially enjoy sonnets), short stories, monologues, screenplays, funny essays, humourous things in general (some pretty off the wall stuff), plays, and am currently working on a novel.
A lot of it is cathartic, too. I write to get out feelings that I can’t share otherwise; and maybe they’ll help other people to see things differently.
It’s easier to reflect on a character and realize it’s me than it is to reflect directly on myself.
I write all the time. Most of it is disturbed and incomprehnisble to anyone but me. Some of it is also disturbed and largely incomprehensible, but also funny. Like this
I write. Mostly character sketches and setting descriptions for the two novels that are banging around in my head. I used to write poetry, but that was back when I was a maudlin and “deep” adolescent. I try to forget those. Of course, none of this is actually published, online or off, so I don’t think I’m in the same category as most of those who have posted here.
I have a number of unfinished short stories that I’ve written. I thoroughly enjoy writing them, though most of them are notoriously bad. But it is cathartic, and when once actually gets finished, and I think it’s good(even if no one else does) the character has taken on a mind and a life of their own. Like Claire is now in the one I’ve been working on lately at work[sup]*[/sup].
[sup]Things have been slow. So sue me. As long as la jefa doesn’t catch me, I’m good.[/sup]
I just finished three pages of my novel last night. It’s 23 pages (in microsoft word, so that translates to a bit longer in actual hardback form), and I love it to death. It’s called Private Shrines, and Nocturne’s read part of it, so she’ll tell you whether it sucks or not. E-mail me if you want to read part of it, I love to get feedback.
I am currently (finally!) working on a script for a comic book. It would hopefully be the start of a series. I have had more then a few ideas for screenplays and comic books. But now it’s time to put up or shut up. Wish me luck.
Yeah, I write for a living. Freelance. I used to work in corporate, but now I am gun-for-hire, as it were. Mostly I do boring stuff like advertising copy and news releases and marketing pieces and articles, but every once in awhile I get to have some mildly subversive fun with it.
I also write naughty stuff that’s posted to one of those filthy-evil-porno-type websites, but I’ll save that for another time.
Do I write anything just for myself, besides the filth? Oddly, no. But I’m young yet…!

I’ve also written a few naughty tales that are posted to one of those filthy-evil-porno-type websites, but I’ll save that for another time.

P.S.: PolishSausage… Good luck to you! A friend of mine is getting ready to release (at least he should be by now) a new comic book called “The Uncanny World of Dr. Deadly”. It’s his first. He is an animator by trade and a total whack job. If you want to check out the website and/or e-mail him for feedback on your stuff (that is,if you want it, no pressure!), go to his website: http://www.drdeadly.com. There’s an e-mail option. He’s great! He and I were in school togther. He did all the films for projects and I wrote the scripts. But he’s really busy and stuff these days and I miss him!
I’d like to write–does that count? I’m one of those loserly people that has 1/25 of a novel started and 1/12th of a children’s book written. They probably suck and I may never finish. But I get a lot of the writing assignments in my office, because I have a reputation for being okay with words.
Also, I once got paid $100 for a story I wrote for True Confessions. It’s not a credential that appears on my resume, I promise you.
Actaully, I figured out what happened. This is actually kind of interesting (at least to me). I started to submit, so I hit the “submit” key, then hit “stop” when I thought of something else to add/change, thinking that it would stop the transmission. It didn’t, I guess, and all drafts went through. So you all can see how many times I actually revised that post before I sent it in. Ironic that it should have happened on a thread about writing. Hee! I guess once you hit submit, the ole die is cast!
