Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog question: Joss Whedon SPOILERS

Poll in a microsecond. Okay, a minute. Till then, here’s a link to the silliness for the seven Dopers who’ve never heard of it.

I voted Penny, not because she should have known better than to date a superhero, but she should have known better than to date that superhero.

Obligatory link to Women in Refrigerators.

I voted for both the Doctor and the Captain. Dr. Horrible bears most of the blame, because he was acting maliciously, and the situation that led to Penny’s death would never have come about if he hadn’t tried to murder Captain Hammer. But Captain Hammer also acted wrecklessly, without regard to how his fight with a supervillain might threaten people around him, and the accident that killed Penny was a direct outgrowth of his attempt to kill the Doctor.

Joss Whedon, who has a pretty high women-in-refrigerators count.

I was going to argue your crack about a “hotter redhead,” but you are right. Felicia is hotter than Alyson.

I disagree. That would only be true if he were killing women in disproportionate numbers to men, which I don’t think to be the case.

I write this having seen exactly 2 minutes of that show with Eliza Dushku as the lead.

The men who leave his shows tend to walk away with a broken heart (SPOILERS for all Whedon shows but DOLLHOUSE)

Riley, Oz, the Groosalug, Angel’s son minus the broken heart

; the women tend to leave feet-first

Jenny Callendar, Cordelia, Joyce, Fred, Willow’s GF whose name I forget, maybe Anya (didn’t watch seasons 6 & 7) - Spike and Buffy don’t count cause they get better; I think Doyle and Wesley were the only male protags who died during one of his TV shows

SERENITY admittedly changes the balance a bit. I also did not watch DOLLHOUSE and know nothing about it.

Really? The only one I can think of that fits that meme is Jenny Calendar from Buffy season 2. Who else are you thinking of?

Missed your second post. The “woman in a refridgerator” meme doesn’t just refer to killing a character. It refers to killing a character in a particularly gruesome way as an act of revenge against the protagonist.

I am not going to do Buffy & Angel spoilers, man.

You left out Doyle, Wesley, and Lindsey, among other men who died on Angel. And of course, of the main characters, only males died in Firefly/Serenity.

I voted for Captain Hammer. He knows how much of a screw-up Dr. Horrible can be, so he shouldn’t have been messing with the raygun at all. Plus, hey, killing an unarmed and helpless guy.

Partial credit to Dr. Horrible - he made the classic supervillain error of pausing to gloat. That should have dinged him in Bad Horse’s eyes right there, but obviously there weren’t any reliable witnesses/reports to get back to him on the topic. I’ll give him some credit for trying to check out the place first to ensure Penny wasn’t there, but unfortunately she was hiding too well - until the explosion happened and she wasn’t under any cover.

Small penalty to Penny here as well, for dating a superhero and for not doing everything she could to GTFO when the fight started between the two. Bystanders are just collateral damage when supers start fighting.

Fred and Willow’s GF (twice! though she got better the first time) both qualify, IMO - the Fred thing wasn’t done specifically as revenge but (from the author’s point of view) to cause angst among the other protagonists, which seems close enough for me

(I edited my post multiple times, but you’ll note that though I didn’t list Lindsey (or any other antagonists) I did edit in Wes and Doyle)

What?!? :dubious: I love The Guild and all, but there is no way that Felicia Day is hotter than Alyson Hannigan. None.

Yeah, but Day has major geek cred, which boosts her hotness rating for a lot of guys.

(Being a redheaded gamer gal, I admit to both experience and bias in this matter. )

In that case, Joyce’s death hardly counts as being stuffed into a refrigerator. There’s every indication that it was due to natural causes, and even if many of us suspect that the monk’s meddling was ultimately responsible, that’s never established in story. And certainly her death isn’t gruesome.

I’d also argue that Anya & Fred’s deaths do not qualify under this definition; they are not killed for revenge against anyone.

Probably, but if you watch HIMYM you’ll see that after her pregnancy Hannigan is packing quite a rack.

So, it makes it into an even match again.

-Joe, notices he’s made a lot of breast-oriented posts this week

FYI, I know it’s been out for several years and a lot of Dopers have seen it, but that is a MAJOR spoiler in the thread title, and if someone who hadn’t seen it yet, but wanted to, read that, it completely ruins the ending.

I reported the OP so hopefully a mod can change it.

That’d be me. :frowning:

Only geek guys.

(I’m a straight chick, btw. Felicia barely has any curves, and frankly she’s not very pretty. Don’t get me wrong, she’s way hotter than I’ll ever be, but she just doesn’t compare to Alyson…hmm, I might have a girl-crush on Lily!)
