Doctor tells Obama voters to get lost

She frankly admitted that she thinks he’s a jackass, just not in so many words. What else do you want?

I want to see a map on Sarah Palin’s Facebook page that has this guy’s office marked with cross hairs.

I want to see Fox News drag him through the coals.

I want to see him getting lambasted on Hannity, not the other guy that used to be on this show.

I want the liberal/conservative aspect of this story removed, so that the real guts can show through. The man acted in a despicable manner. But instead we have quotes like:

Quoted for re-emphasis.

Way back in the '90s when HillaryCare was still being batted about, I was undergoing treatment for cancer. One of the oncologists to which I was referred had a large cutout of Hillary Clinton in his office with an enema kit draped around its neck, and he made a few disparaging remarks about her during our first appointment which he clearly thought were the height of wit. Although I wasn’t a particular fan of the Clinton plan I left the office thinking that, whatever the guy’s merits as a doctor, he was clearly a Grade-A asshole and that I wanted to spend as little time as possible in his presence as was needed for my treatment.

Fortunately most of my treatment was being directed (ironically, given the situation under discussion) by my urologist, who had a much more professional demeanor, and all eventually turned out well. But when you’re seeing a doctor, especially a specialist (and especially a urologist), you as a patient are automatically in a vulnerable position and the last thing you want is a doctor making you worry whether the quality of your care - which in some circumstances may literally be a matter of life or death - is going to depend on the extent to which you agree with him on politics, religion or whatever other pet subject he has chosen to express a view on.

In short, while I don’t think this guy is doing anything illegal he is certainly being extremely unprofessional and doing his patients (and potential patients) a great disservice.

An average, ordinary person such as yourself? Well, OK.

Perhaps what has happened is that you have not recalibrated your lib/con spectrum lately. I have held much the same views for about forty years now, used to be I could depend on a satisfying and affirming universal scorn, save for the sort of intellectual detritus that you outline above. My contempt for wussy centrist liberals was only a bit less than my contempt for the knuckle-walking conservatives.

But centrism is creeping up on me, I find myself on the conservative wing of the extreme left, through no fault of mine own! That which was impossible in my youth is commonplace now. Is the SDMB overwhelmingly liberal? Well, then, one must ask how such an imbalance came to be on a board that prizes factual argument to the point that “cite?” is a cliché. If conservatism is so intelligent, how is it that a board that honors intelligence is not conservative?

Conspiracy? By what dark magic does a raving loon like Obama not only win an election of “average Americans”, but win rather handily?

Is it the “raving” term which has opened me up to brickbats? How about “stridently”, which is probably much closer to what I intended to say (I admit “raving” has negative connotations which I actually did not intend. Poor choice of words on my part.)

Bored now.

Oh that guy. I don’t know what to think about that; I hardly think one could damn ACORN even if a small number of employees were giving out bad advice.

Good point. Your assignment now is to stand up to only one person.

Oh I’ll say “jackass”, I’ll even say “douche” if one wants, I just…don’t think “douche” fits or is the best word. Timbertool? Dingus? Spoiled brat? Those seem to fit better.

The SDMB has changed my views over time - I’ll freely admit that. I am more liberal on several subjects than I would have been 10 years ago.

That seems to sort of back up my impression though, yes?

Does this board honor intelligence any more, however, I believe is the question. Or rather, is it a giant “anger blog.”

I’ll also hazard that conservatism stripped of its hardline Christian influence would likely be acceptable to many more people on this board than what the Republican Party has turned it into.

I guess I could say what I see as being “conservatism” but it would be like a “no true Scotsman” fallacy:

Me: “No conservative should ever be anti same sex marriage, because conservatism means minding your own damn business about people’s private lives.”

The SDMB: “But conservative Republicans are predominantly anti same sex marriage”

Me: “Oh, but they aren’t real conservatives…”

And then it makes me look stupid. Which DianaG thinks I am, but I’ll wager there’s some who would vote the other way.

I supported and liked Obama. I still like him and think he’s a good President. I didn’t vote for him (nor did I vote for McCain) solely because of my disgust over his choosing Biden as a running mate.

Well, it’s hard to amuse humorless people.

Dang. Folks sure are tetchy this morning.

Did Ozymandius put some kind of mood-altering contaminant in the nation’s supply of chocolate rabbit ears this year?

Sounds like the kind of dick move he’d pull.

Fuck [del]you[/del]* your shoes, man.

*don’t warn me, bro!

Gosh, how inspiringly brave of you. An anonymous message board user boldly unafraid to be a hypocritical asshole on an anonymous message board. That takes a special brand of courage.

I’m not defending illogical sweeping generalizations made by some other posters about “conservatives” in general with no qualifiers. I’m just pointing out how dumb it makes you look when you make the very same sort of illogical sweeping generalizations while complaining about theirs, such as referring to the SDMB as “95% raving liberal”.

You pretty much refused to address my points, so it’s clear you have nothing of interest for me to read here any more. In other words, bored now.

On the other hand, it is relatively easy to amuse oneself at the expense of fanatics. It’s part of the fascination of the SDMB.

Regards,
Shodan

While you’re here, how do you feel about this physician’s actions?

It is for a lot of us. Thanks.
