Holy shit, was that Rose?
Yes, it was.
OhMYGod, OhMyGod, OhMyGod!!!
Cool.
Okay, have our Pals across the water already seen this? Do they know what happens? We will offer money.
Was that The Bride from a year or so ago? If not, who?
Yup, that’s Rose, and that’s the Bride- Donna Noble (played by Catherine Tate).
If you liked the “monsters” of the episode, you should know that several people online have made knitted and/or crocheted version of them. Super cute!
(Just an idea: wouldn’t it make more sense to name Doctor Who episode threads after the title- Partners in Crime, in this case, especially since they’re airing within a few weeks of each other in the UK and the US?)
Please don’t use US broadcast dates to differentiate an episode. Whatever date it screened in the US is meaningless to everybody else, and it would be devastating if someone wandered into a thread not aware that it’s an episode they haven’t seen.
All Doctor Who episodes have their own titles. It’d be really helpful if you use them instead.
edit: Ah, Leiko already had the same idea.
I’ve been staying away from the Who threads because I want to avoid the confusion, you know, I’d kinda like to participate in these sort of converations in a timely manner.
At any rate, because I have to say something, Billie Piper signed on for a good four episodes this season - so yes; we’ll be seeing Rose. (Insert horrible excited geek sound here)
Overall I felt this was a rather weak episode, but the little creatures were so dang cute (in a cheesy way) and seeing OMG ROSE!!! made it ok for me.
Any particular reason The Doctor is traveling with an abrasive middle aged woman instead of one of his typical Maxim friendly companions?
Martha’s going to be m-a-a-a-d.
Yes it would, but if a Mod changes it now we will both look silly instead of just me.
Maybe because the person playing the companion can actually act? I’m still suspicious of this “oh, we planned to write Martha out from the start” stuff. Hmm. Maybe they saw the early rushes last year and thought “what have we done?” Billie Piper wasn’t that great either. Now at least they have a proper actor in the role.
Not sure I like the new companion, but at least she isn’t in “love” with the Doctor. Martha’s drooling fangirl act really got on my nerves after a while.
Martha is going to be tooled-up and serious. Well, probably. I guess we’ll find out in a couple of hours.
Sontarans!
Cool. Spoilers on Wikipedia.
It was kind of funny when the Doctor said “I’m looking for a mate” and she thought he was “looking to mate” and got all freaked out.
I have to say though, I don’t really like it how in recent episodes he starts going off on these grandious proclaimations of how he’s the Doctor, a Time Lord and so on. It’s been a long time since I saw the old episodes (not counting a few I watched recently on the web), but I always remembered him simply telling people “I’m The Doctor” matter of factly and people just accepted it with a shrug.
I don’t think she thought he said he was looking “to” mate, she just misinterpreted his usage of mate (friend) for the alternate usage (life partner). (I agree that she took it sexually and he didn’t mean it that way, in other words, but I don’t think she thought he said TO MATE, she just misinterpreted his meaning of what “a mate” was.)
No she clearly thought he wanted to breed with her alien style.
Brit dopers had a chance to see the two companions Donna and Martha on screen together today and the new beats the old hands down.
