Doctor Who 4x13 Journey's End

They did indeed have several inter Dalek battles, the first one in Evil of the Daleks from the 1960s unfortunately this is lost except for the audio and 1 episode (I think).

Most of the last three or 4 Davros stories were part of a linked series about the Dalek civil war.

Like you I think Davros was one of Doctor who’s greatest villains, but he and the Daleks need a good long rest.

It’s been done on audio, but it would be nice, in a few years time, to see Davros go against the Doctor without the Daleks or maybe against them. Necessity making them allies or something.

Can’t say I’m looking forward to the Return of the Cybermen at Christmas, I don’t really like the re-designed version form the parallel universe. I think they should have used an updated version of our realities Cybermen instead.

I agree on this point. The original idea of them being in a parallel dimension worked for a wider reason, not least of which was the Rose finale, and the excuse to reinvent them.

But technically you can’t have them return again without opening up the parallel dimension concept one more time. They’re not likely to overlook that, so how will they jam it all in “convincingly” enough?

Dalek civil wars in the past have been linked to someone else meddling with the Daleks, like the human factor Daleks the Doctor creates and then Davros making blobs with bits attached (to paraphrase Ace). Given time I think the Daleks would find a way to see differences that probably don’t exist.

With the universes closed to each other, why didn’t they just bring back the Cybermen of old?

No it’s not. A mighty part-Timelord consciousness couldn’t inhabit a human brain without destroying it - but a puny part-human consciousness could easily fit into a Timelord brain.

Yes it is :stuck_out_tongue:

They never really explained the quasi-regeneration too well for my liking, it seemed like the transformation of the Dalek in “Dalek”, it absorbed Rose’s DNA and started to transform into something un-Dalek. It seemed like the new Doctor was doing something similar.

Well, they’ve never really explained regeneration to any extent either, so, you know…

PS No, it’s not :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Regeneration seemed to be simply a new body growing for the Doctor, as if his cells went back in time and mutated up a new body for him. All this business about a Kaled absorbing DNA through the armoured shell of his Dalek body is a bit fishier.

But then like you say, its not been technically explained so…

I think you can take Doctor Who science only so far and shouldn’t try to push it further.

I have a question. Are we now to refer to Tennant as both the tenth and eleventh doctors, or will the next actor be the eleventh?

He’s still the same (tenth) Doctor: refreshed but unregenerate.

Maybe they pinched regeneration technology from the Timelords in the Time War.

Isn’t there supposed to be a limit on the number of times a Time Lord can regenerate? I thought it was ten, hasn’t the Doctor gone past that?

I think the limit is 12.

This. Ugh, what a horrible way to lose her and way before I was ready for. I had enjoyed Donna - it seemed like she treated the Doctor as an equal and friend instead of the Timelord love of the first three series. I want more of that! Though her and Tennant both being ‘Donna-esque’ was great fun as was the full-up TARDIS. Some good moments, but too much fail.
still grumpy

I believe it’s an imposed limit, not a physical one. With no Gallifreyans around to restrict him any more, he may be free to change as often as he wishes to. And it’s 12 regenerations, 13 incarnations.

The Master was brought back to fight for Gallifrey in “The Five Doctors” with the promise of a new set of regenerations, so there’s a mechanism somewhere to reset the counter.

Of course, you can always possess another being, but that’s for someone sneaky like The Master.

I guess I am the first Sci-Fi channel viewer checking in to the thread. Have I mentioned I am jealous of those of you that get to see it at first broadcast.

I enjoyed it, but this one lost my kids at times. Especially my son who is only 8. I thought they had a lot of fun with all the companions and the extra Doctors. Anyone make any sense of how the Daleks were suppose to have the ability to beam Martha from Earth and Captain Jack, Mickey and Jackie to the Doctor. That was a strange ability to suddenly display.

Is it sad that we got our biggest kick out of K-9 showing up? I wasn’t expecting him or Mickey and the Mom. Is Mickey joining Torchwood?

I feel sorry for Donna and I hope her Mom can try being a bit nicer to her.

I don’t have a strong connection to the old show. I only liked the Tom Baker 4th Doctor and I guess I only saw about half of those. I remember the Master, but I don’t even remember Davros.

Someone asked about the “Sarah Jane Adventures”. It is definitely a kids show. My kids like it and I watch it with them but I surf the net while doing so.

Did Torchwood improve at all from the first season? The first season lost me, I game up about 7 or 8 episodes in and then saw the space whale episode and washed my hands of it.

Well, I can’t speak for your own tastes, but my sister is a die hard Torchwood fan and she didn’t know it was Doctor Who based tillI told her. It’s definitely for a different target audience. I like it when I can’t get my Doctor Who. Since it looksw like this might be a really long break for Doctor Who, I am really looking forward to it.

I was not happy with the whole ending. Donna was great and Rose was great, but now neither of them will be back. Giving Rose the duplicate Doctor was definitely creepy. It’s true we have seen enough of the Daleks for a while, but they are definitely my favorite enemy so I expect their return.

So glad to see this thread…

Lots of daftness in Journey’s End, and a few lame bits such as the Doctor regenerating as himself, but all made up for by the last ten minutes. Not so much the beach scene, but the tragedy of Donna, coming downstairs having forgotten everything. That bit where the Doctor told her parents that in other worlds ‘they are singing songs to Donna Noble’, but they can never tell Donna what she’s done, almost made me cry. Catherine Tate was flamed quite a bit in early episodes on message boards, and I always liked her - glad to see that she got a chance to see what she could do. And that bit where she was imitating the Doctor! Hee.

Also loved the bit where there were three Doctors at one point, and Captain Jack said pervily, ‘I can’t even tell you what I’m thinking right now’. Smut.

I sat down and had a stiff drink after it was over. I still feel so sad for Donna…

Both 10 & 11 according to Wikipedia, FWIW.
