There’s one standing directly behind her, outside; you can clearly hear the sound of breaking glass when it throws the rock through the glass, and immediately after the rock comes flying through the window Sally turns and looks at the statue and the camera focuses on it for a very long time. Why does it feel the need to knock her unconscious rather than just sneaking up on her like it does to Kathy later, I’ve no clue. Maybe this one was just mean.
I saw this episode weeks ago on CBC with my Kids who are Huge Who fanatics now…
This episode had them scared witless one was under the covers for most of the last half of teh episode… especially when the lights flicked. It reminded me of my childhood hiding behind the couch when the Master’s plastic troll doll came to life ready to kill…
I enjoy watching with them because it is the only show from my childhood I can share… (The little SOBs don’t like Trek )
I’ve started introducing them to past incarnations of the Doctor and despite the cheesy effects the kids love them. Hell any time a Dalek shows up or a Cyberman they like it.
Tonight The joy of reading as we explore the Doctor’s TV past through Wikipedia
especially the history of The Master
For those behind the rest of us…
Don’t read the spoiler as it pertains to the final three episodes.
'Course some of us over here already know.
I still have the odd moment where I imagine a maggot is going to jump up my trouser leg. But the Blink coda was really nasty, he he he
- Does your Wife know you called then that?
- You can always have more.
You inspired me, I just added 22 Tom Baker Doctor Who discs to my Netflix Queue to start watching when this season ends in 3 weeks.
Now I just need to figure out how to order them. This will take some work with the Wiki list..

It was scary, but I’d rather be scared than depressed. The two-parter before this made me want to drink hemlock.
I was actually really concerned about this one, because I had heard how scary it was.
I assumed it would be worse that “The Empty Child”. I didn’t sleep for a week after that one. Thank god the CBC showed the second part right away. Even now that little guy still wanders through my mind in the dark and I have to conciously think “it’s okay. It all turned out all right in the end”
Mean statues that move when you aren’t looking at them? No problems here.
“The Empty Child” is the one that had my kids scared and me creeped out. That was such a great one. As good as Doctor Who has ever been.

And, as it has been maybe mentioned, that two-parter and this episode were written by the same guy.
Steven Moffat also wrote the series Jekyll, which caused a chill or two.
Especially the first time “Mr Hyde” appeared to Dr Jackman on videotape. And asked “Are you my daddy?”
One minute of “Mommy?” was creepier than all of Blink put together (including the coda).
It’s still a great episode, though–fun characters, bizarre bad guys, and a nifty bit of time loopiness. It makes me want to go put cryptic Easter Eggs on DVDs.
Parenthetical aside: I’m not reading this thread because I haven’t seen the episode yet, but I am changing the title from “Dr Who” to “Doctor Who” to allow searching. And I recommend that future titles do the same.
When they release the DVD set for this season, I wonder if they’ll include the easter egg, with the doctor’s half of the conversation?
Yes, they are going to.
Sweet! Don’t get me wrong - I really, really liked the episode. I just didn’t find it scary.
Gotta see it in the dark at night with the kids… makes for fun viewing.
“The Empty child” had a few really good creepy moments but this one worked for me a little bit more.
Zombies in Gas Masks calling for their mommies didn’t scare me but the idea of being left behind and staring at a statue you know will get you if you blink…and the only other person who can help has run off to who knows where… Yagggg…
The only thing that makes them less frightening is that they didn’t outright kill you.
I’m a couple of days late to this, but there ya go - I only just got to see the last few episodes of the series. This episode rocked, but I agree Moffat went one step scarier with ‘The Empty Child’ - which has the only Doctor Who scene ever that has made me physically shake, when the typewriter starts up by itself
I don’t know why that did my head in so badly.
