Doctor Who: Midnight

Am I the only one who thought this was the weakest episode of Dr Who since the one with the fat alien who absorbed people in series 2 or 3? This was comparable to that, the only difference being that the Doctor was in this and there was nobody making a video diary of the whole thing.

The whole episode was dull, I didn’t care about any of the characters, particularly as it was llike an episode of Eastenders (the worst, and that’s saying something, British soap) in space. It was, to me, a typical RTD filler episode before the final 3.

Probably not bad enough to qualify as the “worst episode ever…”, but getting there, for pure tedium and pointlessness it’s up there with The Sontaran Experiment (original series, Tom Baker), which I only own because it happened to be on the same VHS video as Genesis of the Daleks.

Apparently, yes.

Love and Monsters, my favorite of the entire new series, lol. I think both episodes are great because they explore the good and the bad of the human condition, and the consequences of the Doctor’s “meddling” in human affairs.

But what do I know? I thought the library two-parter was duller than dirt.

Oh well, perhaps I should have watched it drunk. Perhaps it’s for the best that RTD is leaving and the show is having a bit of a rest (barring the specials).

I thought it was slightly anticlimactic, but only because the first 3/4s of the ep was really good. I thought the buildup to Sky turning around was outstanding; I was expecting something horrifying and when it was just her, that tension kind of hung on. Plus, the repeating was an excellent technique to use, I think - just made it creepy.

I didn’t think it was an anti-climax, but a handful of people on other boards have suggested such a thing happened. For those who felt it was, what was supposed to happen exactly?

Well a completely different and interesting story would have been better, without all the bollocks about “extopic sunlight”. I know it’s sci-fi but at least pick on a concept that actually exists or has the possibility to exist. Why should this light be any different to any other?

If I wanted to explore the good and bad of human interactions I’d watch Big Brother (which I don’t BTW), this is meant to be a sci-fi adventure show.

As I only have three days left until my guest membership expires I may as well have a go at the last three episodes before they are aired.

The Daleks - Not again, I like them as much as anyone, but talk about overdoing it, they have been in every series so far. And for a species on the verge of extinction there seems to be a lot of them in the adverts. This probably means that the Time Lords are stored away in the Doctors consciousness somewhere, oh wait that’s already been done (spoiler warning). Remember when he said something in the previous episode about having thousands of voices in his head? :smack:

Davros - Hopefully not Ben Kingsley. I will be pleased to see the return of the character unless he gets the usual RTD treatment (He only created the Daleks due to his repressed homosexual tendencies). :dubious:

Rose - Why?

As someone who has been a DW fan since the Jon Pertwee era, I have to say unless it picks up I’ll be glad when it’s all over. I was pleased when it was brought back, but now I just find they re-hash the same dodgy storylines over and over.

Maybe it’ll improve under the new managment.

I thought it was a wonderful piece of 45 minute television drama that examined the human condition.

I love the way the stories that come from limitations (we need to do an episode without the doctor=Love & Monsters, Blink, we only have enough budget for a single set and six actors=Midnight) have turned out to be the most imaginative and original!
