Just been looking at the Doctor WHo wiki site and it struck me, is there possibly a link between the Sensorites and the Ood?
Both are telepathic races and share certain characteristics such as head shape. While the Sensorites lack tentacles I suspect that they are related to the Ood in some way, possibly in the same way that Star Trek TOS Klingons look completely different to those in the movies and later series.
I like to think that the Ood are what the BBC would have done with the Sensorites had the makeup and budget been available at the time.
Probably not. While it’s true that they have some physical similarities, that’s not indicative of much in a universe in which most of the planets throughout the universe have spawned species that look remarkably similar to human beings. In other words, if the dominant sentient life forms that developed on Earth, Gallifrey, Skaro (pre-genetic mutations), Peladon, Deva-Loka and any number of other worlds can look exactly identical, why couldn’t a few non-human species from different worlds end up looking identical?
In fact, their physical similarity might be an evolutionary offshoot of their telepathic nature. After all, if you can communicate mentally, and can adapt some other means of intaking food & liquid, why would you need a mouth?
Sensorites, are they a group mind or simply linked, or not even telepathic at all? (The Ood began as a group, or hive, mind, if irc and the web site linked to is correct)
