Doctor Who - Season 3 Ep 1 - Smith and Jones

Loved it. Great balance of action and humor. Interesting bit that I’ve noticed. Russell T. Davies seems obsessed with interracial relationships. Rose / Catherine Tate (whatever her characters name was)/ and now Martha’s dad.

Seems we’ve gone from underrepresented to overrepresented.

I’m sure there’s a message in there but it escapes me.

So is “Saxon” going to be the big deal. It was mentioned once by a character and there were “Vote for Saxon” posters all over the place.

Have we meet this Saxon before?

Saxon is the story arc for this season. I can’t say I even noticed it, so I am surprised so many people are picking up on it as significant… But yes, apparently that’s the deal.

Whatever the arc may be, we’re promised another two Dalek episodes, quite soon too

Personal theory based on rumours and whatnot; Saxon is the Master.

Edit: Apparently it’s not actually that far-fetched a theory. At the least i’m not the only one to think of it.

In response to your theory:

I have read that as well. I am brand new to the Doctor Who-fandom, so I’m not too up on this “Master” except to know that he’s the Doctor’s nemesis, right? Anyway, apparently one thing feeding fuel to this theory is the fact that if you rearrange the letters of “Mister Saxon” you get “Master No. Six”, although someone on another board pointed out that that’s not the correct number they’d be on at this point?

Love this show, so glad I finally got into it though now I have to endure teasing from Mr. Bunny for those previous seasons I wasted bitching about when he wanted to watch it. Now he can’t get me to turn the DVD’s off and I’ve become just a wee bit obsessed.
I have a sonic screwdriver pen.

What?

Would anyone object if we were to discuss speculation without spoiler boxes? I’d like to discuss (get all geeky) about the above, but posts full of black boxes give me a headache.

Sorry about that, I was told elsewhere that if it was just wild-ass speculation it did not have to be spoiler-boxed, but that if it was actual spoilers I’d read somewhere it did. Since the above was something I read elsewhere where several folks seem pretty darned confident that they are correct, I figured I’d err on the side of caution.

I’d personally love it if you’d geek away, spoiler-boxes or no!

Fair enough. I’ll just allude. I think 6 sounds like the right number. Roger Whathisface, Anthony SomethingthatstartsA, two ugly dudes, and Eric Roberts.

On a really cool note, I read an interview with Tom Baker about a year ago where he expressed an intrest in playing him.

Forgot to mention in my post upthread, however, that apparently at one point Russell T. Davies expressed that he felt that character was played out, and had no interest in bringing him into the new series.

So, we may all be completely off base. Have to wait and see!

Actually, I figured that Mr Saxonwould not be the Master, but would be a Time Lord.

I saw a list of episode titles for this season and (spoiling the last episode title):The last episode of the season is called “Last of the Time Lords”. Saxon is almost certainly a Time Lord and if he’s a Time Lord and enemy of the Doctor then I’d put money on him being the Master.

Freema Agyeman aka Martha Jones is very, very hot.

Very.

She’s also my age, and lives in London, like me. Just saying.

I’m hoping Saxon will be like the “world of shrimp” in the Whedon-world. It doesn’t mean a damn thing!
