Doctor Who - Season 3 Episode 2 - The Shakespeare Code (unboxed spoilers)

Am I the only one who kinda misses the “No hankey-pankey in the TARDIS” rule?

Sexuality of William Shakespeare.

Not sure if the “57” number has some significance in relation to the topic or if it’s just a funny number.

Of course, with the recent US airing, the Harry Potter references seemed much more relevant, wouldn’t you say?

Really well-written episode, quite apart from all the Shakespeare quoting. My favorite exchange: The Doctor: “When you get home you can tell everyone you saw William Shakespeare.” Martha, in mock glee: “Then I can get sectioned!”

(BBC News explanation of sectioning here. I doublechecked to be sure I understood the joke correctly. It’s weird how the new Who is both more multicultural and much more parochially “British” than the old show; being a BBC News/BBC America junkie comes in handy.)

The confrontation with Elizabeth I at the end was also a nice touch. First Queen Victoria, now Gloriana–is the Doctor going to piss off Bouddica next?

A very funny episode.

I find Martha extremely appealing.

“Did you read book 7? I cried.” Hee.
