Yeah, it may be an engineered species (Originally the Kaleds before Davros tinkered with the material) but still killing a species thus genocide.
I disagree. I thought last season’s Doctor came off as pinched and dyspeptic. I much prefer the aging punk rocker we saw in the first episode of this season.
I thought it was very Matt Smith-like.
All I know is that I’m glad I didn’t look that old when I was Capaldi’s age.
And how did the Doctor get a tank through the tiny TARDIS door?
He didn’t. The TARDIS has some sort of tractor beam, as seen in in “The Satan Pit”. At least I think that’s the episode.
Yes, also used in Journey’s End to bring Earth home from the Medusa Cascade
Holy Crap, that was actually Peter Capaldi playing!
Looked like he knew what he was doing with a guitar. I thought maybe he’d just been instructed how to mime well - the Radio Times says otherwise.
I think the guitar was an old Yamaha, if anyone cares.
I don’t care how little sense it made, I enjoyed the entrance, and how it was cued up.
“How will we find him?”
“We just have to look for the tiniest anachron…”
Anyone else recognise the riff he played when he spotted the girls?
Pretty Woman
More than just in the same band, according to Craig, they dropped acid together.
I wish Craig had had Capaldi on the show again after Capaldi started the Dr Who run. It would have been wonderful. Craig would have completely nerded out even more than usual.
I had zero reaction to the two deaths, so it would be funny if at the end of part two the Doctor complains that his brilliant idea to save the TARDIS worked and his plan to save Clara was for her to be in it. Oh well, time to find a new companion.
Here’s what I think will happen in part two.
His playing guitar on a tank will be explained.
He was creating a temporal anomaly that allows him to rewrite history and give himself a do over. The tank is where he saved Clara and Missy. He alluded to it with “How scared must you be to seal everyone of your kind in a tank?”
Would you kill a child if you knew he would turn out to be a mass murdering dictator? I expect the Doctor will try to do something other then killing him or doing nothing. He could take him to Earth to be raised in an orphan by that woman from “The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe.” But he’s not an ordinary kid he will be totally evil and we will find out that he was the one that created the hand mines and used himself as bait to kill people trying to rescue him.
That explains a lot
Hard to take the deaths seriously when the trailer for the season shows many scenes with Clara in them that haven’t been seen yet. Of course Moffat knew that it was entirely unbelievable and didn’t put any effort into making the deaths “dramatic”.
Very much loved Missy. She’s the character that really represents the audience and their observations of how the episode is progressing - ‘Yeah, not dead, big surprise’.
I loved my shock at the child calling himself Davros. I wondered what the Doctor did or didn’t do to ‘Child Davros’. Since the Doctor likes to give chances, I wondered if the child might be Davros Jr. instead. Davros Sr. could have seen the child abandoned to fate and started his cynical descent. The Doctor could return to help Davros Jr. and soften Davros Sr.'s future.
Yeah, Clara, Missy, not dead, big surprise. Vortex Manipulators on their wrists, probably.
So the Tardis being destroyed? No, it should have just whooshed away too. Why take it to Skaro? I assume the Daleks needed a lot of power to ‘destroy’ the Tardis and that was only available at their base, not at some 12th century party.
Many things are hard to reconcile:
There was the old episode “The Chase” showing the Daleks with time travel, so why did Missy think they needed her to show the Daleks time travel?
Clara and Missy used Vortex Manipulators to travel to 1138. How did Colony Sarff get to 1138? Seems the Daleks have enough time travel abilities.
The Dying Davros had the sonic screwdriver from when he (or his son) was a child in the hand mine field (bad pun, like the ax fight, but I laughed). So he knew the Doctor all along. He can’t have mistaken Tom Baker, unless he was pretending. Only if the Doctor is now going to change his personal timeline (which has always been a no no).
That was a good shock, only slightly undercut by my next thought, which was, “In all of time and space, there’s only ever been one guy named Davros?”
That one really bugged me, too. The Daleks fought the Time Lords to a standstill in the Time War. Their tech has to have at least rough parity with the Time Lords, otherwise they’d have been steamrolled. And the Doctor’s Tardis is supposed to be an old and obsolete model! I can’t imagine why the Daleks would be tempted by the Tardis. I can’t imagine why Missy would have thought they might be, either.
My Dad always used to say that before he became evil he was just a guy called Dave Ross.
On Missy trying to tempt the Daleks with the TARDIS; I don’t think she was serious. She was just messing around. Maybe buying time and moving around so that they wouldn’t see her setting her vortex manipulator.
On Davros not remembering the Doctor until recently; I’m sure more will be revealed because (I’m hoping) even Moffat isn’t stupid enough to think we’ll buy:1) The Doctor meets Davros as a child, 2) They meet again, but Davros doesn’t know who he is, and 3) In old age Davros suddenly remembers his childhood.
Not so many Hitlers or Vlad Draculs around these days. Names get negative connotations I guess
See that’s what bugged me about it; it’s new to the Doctor, and new to us, but Davros has known about it his whole life, the first time he ever met this flamboyant guy with a blue box he should have twigged, and yet this is the first time he brings it up? That also bothered me about the Final Powder Compact Of Doom: if Time Lords use them when they’re facing their inevitable deaths, why have we never seen one before? The last four or five seasons have been all about the supposed death of the Doctor, and suddenly it’s all they can talk about.
Moffat’s obssesed with the Doctor’s death, and yet, unless the show is going to be cancled, the Doctor can’t be killed off, so you get cheats, and reset buttons, and hand waving as to why he keeps surviving.
