Doctor Who - Series Six - Part II

I wonder about this whole thing, because all that took place on Gallifrey with the other Time Lords, didn’t it? Gallifrey and the Time Lords don’t exist anymore, so even if the Doctor does become evil, he can’t exactly have a big old Time Lord trial like he did the first time any more.

But it already happened.

Edit: I guess the question is, is that a fixed point in time, or can it be rewritten?

I don’t see why it can’t be put here:

Karen and Matt are confirmed back for Series 7 which will lead up to the 50th anniversary. I assume that Arthur will be returning as well.

Damn good episode. Along with The Doctor’s Wife, one I will use to introduce people to NuWho.

Very poor. Very, very poor. The melodrama was sickening, it was practically screaming “please by upset by this, please be moved, pleeeeease”, especially considering the clichéd and overdone music and slow motion scenes. The only decent part was Rory’s “you’re turning me into you” moment of despair.

If someone showed me this as an attempt to get me into the show I’d never watch a single episode again.

It is strange, I think the show runner is excellent. The Doctor and companies are really very good, just the stories are simply not doing it for me. Ten episodes in and we’ve had one and a half good ones.

The way I see it, is that it’s possible that there is – or could be – a genuine, once-and-for-all, definitive answer to this question, and that we could learn what it was.

But I think that we would have to choose between, on the one hand, knowing that answer, and, on the other, having further new episodes to watch of this show which is, after all, called Doctor Who.

Because I don’t believe it would be possible to have both. And having gone without an answer for nearly 48 years now, I think I can manage a little longer.

As Reinette said: “It’s more than just a secret, isn’t it?”

I’d rather we never learn.

I recall a similar secret in Babylon 5. Ambassador Kosh never let anyone see him outside his environmental suit. One episode he saves someone by flying out of the suit. He was instantly recognized by everyone as an angel from their own belief systems.
I’ve always thought the Doctor’s name is something very identifiable. It would reveal some secret he’s hiding. Much like it did with Kosh.

Also it’s a clever gimmick for the character. A secret that will never be told.

Could it be … Satan?

(Actually that would be a throw-back to Arthur C. Clark’s Childhood’s End)

You’re missing the point. Of course we shouldn’t and probably won’t learn his name. But we can, and probably will learn, why a Time Lord’s name is secret, special, and only revealed at a particular time.

But this isn’t something that is true of Time Lords generally – or at least, not as far as we know. While some of the other Time Lords we’ve seen have been known by their titles or nommes de guerre, others seem to have used their given names in a perfectly normal manner – Romanadvoratrelundar, Borusa, Rassilon and Andred, for instance.

The mystery surrounding the Doctor’s name seems to be a part of the central mystery about his identity and history that’s been part of the show since 1963.

It really seems more the case that more Time Lords are known by pseudonyms than not - the Doctor, the Master, the Rani, the War Lord, the Meddling Monk, the Corsair, the Valeyard, etc.

Beware! Epileptic Trees(Or roots, maybe.) ahead!

Okay. Some things that have been bugging me/ stand out to me for some reason.

The little dying girl who regenerates isn’t shown regenerating into Melody. Who is to say that’s really her? If it was Melody, what was she doing in between then and meeting up with Rory and Amy? Did Melody get adopted by a family? Did Rory and Amy ever see a family?

Why does Rory keep dying? There must be a reason to it.

The photo of amy holding the baby. (I can’t remember which episode) I don’t think
Madame Kovarian doesn’t seem the type to take happy snaps.

Some one said we’ll be surprised about the doctor’s and Amy’s relationship. (Moffat maybe?)

What’s important about Amy’s wedding day?
Both of Melody’s names come from paradoxes. Melody is named after mel, who is melody and river song is named after river song.

The nursery rhyme seems important to me.

Tick tock goes the clock
And what then shall we see?
Tick tock until the day
That thou shalt marry me (River song and the doctor getting married? The day Amy and Rory get married?)

Tick tock goes the clock
And all the years they fly (Time travel… or being stuck in time. Kind of like what happened to amy? )
Tick tock and all too soon
You and I must die ( This song is about the doctor’s death. Obviously, he’s the you. Who is the I?)

Tick tock goes the clock
He cradled her and he rocked her
Tick tock goes the clock
Even for the Doctor.

Madame Kovarian seems important too me.

It’s been said before, TARDIS’s are grown, not created. Melody is here because of the tardis. When the people in the tessellator saw the tardis, they instantly thought criminal.

My theories/conclusions/ideas (Which I admit, are probably really out there and make no sense and I’ve missed a few episodes…) at the moment, (which doesn’t include everything that stands out to me is.)

Melody is* a* TARDIS. Madame Kovarian** maybe*** the* TARDIS. Amy will betray the doctor, or the doctor will betray her.
Melody kills Rory.
The silence isn’t the race of the creatures. The silence is when the universe is destroyed, by the tardis blowing up. The tardis is blown up because of amy.

Yeah, Just ignore the thoughts of a madwomen!

Sure, all he had to do was disassemble the TARDIS. That, and it would have all come crashing back to nothing if someone kicked out the plug. :smack:

Sure, but it could be the Shadow Proclamation or something. And no, it’s not like they could actually stop him and keep him imprisoned or anything - but if he’s feeling bad enough about himself they wouldn’t need to.

Of course, what’s to stop an Eeeevil Doctor from releasing the Time Lords, complete with a pissed off Rassilon?

Pfft. Since we don’t have even the faintest clue how a time-locked Gallifrey works, for all we know they could all be released by some human whose last words are, “I wonder what this button does?”

I remarked “Wow. It’s too bad that the makeup artist wasn’t available for the Harry Potter epilogue”

It was a great episode that left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Naturally it provoked the philosophical question of whether I could share myself with my husband. Anyone else wonder what they would do in Rory’s situation?

The only thing that didn’t sit right with me is that in 36 years, Amy apparently never was thinking of her daughter. In fact, there was no mention of her daughter for the entire episode. Are we just supposed to forget there’s a kidnapped infant out there somewhere?

The kidnapped infant is currently serving (when she feels like it) a life senetence for murder in the 51st century.

My wife’s only complaint, too. My only rationalization was that Amy really had a daughter (that she knew of) for a matter of, what a month? I know I know, still a big deal, but it’s not like she’d gone through nine months of pregnancy and all that.

Then again, is it possible this is another episode that is a victim of schedule rearrangement?
