In case you don’t know Shada was a “Lost” episode of Doctor Who. I’m guessing that some of the film was lost since about 1/4 of the movie was animated.
So here’s the question:
In the animated segments I swear that’s not Tom Baker speaking, it’s Patrick Stewart.
I checked IMDB and Patrick Stewart isn’t listed in the credits. So have I gone crazy or is this an uncredited role for Mr. Stewart?
According to this and Wikipedia, it’s Tom Baker on the same recording equipment that the BBC used in 1980.
ETA: details as to why this is a “lost” episode can be found in this thread.
Okay, first of all, none of the film was lost. There were production problems that halted filming, so that a big chunk of it was never made.
Second, there have been three different animated versions:
- A complete Flash-animation remake with 8th Doctor Paul McGann (2003)
- an unofficial animation of the missing parts made by Ian Levine (2011). Most of the original cast reprised their roles, except K9 (actor deceased) and Tom Baker (declined to participate). The Doctor was voiced by Paul Jones.
- An official BBC animation of the missing parts (2017). Tom Baker did voice this one.
You may have seen the 2011 version with a different actor. Or even if it was the 2017 version, Tom Baker’s voice has changed somewhat over the years.
It must be the 3rd version I just got on BluRay a few weeks ago. Has John Leeson (K9) passed away? IMDB says not–do you mean someone else? The voice thing I notice is that the Evil Alien’s computer sounds just like K9, so it’s sometimes easy to get confused about who the Doctor’s talking to.
There was also a version using the existing footage, with Tom Baker describing the missing scenes.
In season 17 K9 was voiced by David Brierley. He voiced K9 in the parts that were shot. He died in 2008.
