Doctor Who - spoilers for next season

Some time next season.

I will miss Rory :frowning:

I’ve just realised how spoilerific the thread title is and that not everyone will want to know.

Can someone please report this and ask a mod to change the title?

Apologies all!

I reported the OP, but you should know that you can report your own posts.

Can I? I did look, must have missed it.

I’ve edited the thread title from “The Ponds are Leaving the Doctor” to whatever it now says.

Thank you!

See the little triangle in the upper right corner of the post, next to the post number? That’s the report post button. Formerly it wasn’t possible to report your own posts, but it has been possible for at least a couple of years.

The article mentions two “lost” episodes that were aired “earlier this week.” Anybody know what ep.s they were?

I went back & forth on Amy - I liked Karen Gillian, but the part as written could be very grating sometimes. And the whole River Song backstory became increasingly tiresome towards the end of last season. The show could use a change in direction.
Rory was a great innovation. While Amy was just one in a line of spunky, fiesty young female companions, Rory was the first male companion in the new series, and not an irritating “boy genius” like Adric or Turlough. He was a thoughtful, introspective character who wasn’t afraid to tell the Doctor he was full of shit (which, let’s face it, he sometimes is.) That was a great new dynamic to the show.

Here.

Part 3 of the 1st Doctor (William Hartnell) serial “Galaxy 4” and part 2 of the 3rd Doctor (Patrick Troughton) serial “The Underwater Menace”.

Do you want him to repeat the question…

Thread here.

Mickey, Adam and Captain Jack might debate that statement. Even Jackson Lake arguably has grounds to disagree.

Turlough was a genius?

I don’t think its really a spoiler. Companions generally have a shelf life of about 2-3 years. It’s predictable that they would be leaving soon. In fact, most people thought they had already left.

Telling us HOW they would leave would be a spoiler. But the article only gives the vaguest hints of that.

Patrick Troughton was the 2nd Doctor.

The 3rd Doctor was Jon Pertwee.

:smack:

I think I keep mixing up those two because Pertwee looks a lot more like Hartnell than he does Troughton, so I kind of merge 1 and 3 and move 2 back a slot.

Rory was definitely an interesting character who was allowed to grow and change and be his own man despite the fact that his competition is the Doctor. He is never overawed by the Doctor and does not automatically agree with what the Doctor is doing or saying. He was a great addition to the TARDIS team.

I won’t be watching next season. I’m fed up with Moffat’s obsession with constant heartbreak. These season long arcs of doom are just too frustrating for me.

Why can’t the companion just leave like they have for almost forty years? Why does there have to be some gut wrenching tragedy?

I have no problem with cast changes. But Amy has faced nothing but constant tragedy. Rory has been killed what four or five times?

Rose got left in a parallel world. Martha left to pursue medicine. Donna had her memory wiped. Donna’s leaving was sad but nothing horrible like Moffat is hinting at.

Rory is to Doctor Who as Kenny is to South Park

I agree. I was so upset at the way Donna left, especially since they seemed to go to great pains to establish how much of a better person she was after traveling with the Doctor - now that was all gone.

Since we knew from Donna’s first appearance that she really really wanted to be married, I had thought of a perfect exit for her - have her meet some cute guy on another planet, and have her willingly decide to stay there and settle down with him. There, no heartbreak, no depressing endings, just someone getting what they want for once. I was really expecting they’d do something like this, until they started making hints, like River’s reaction to meeting Donna in the library.
