Your favorite post-revival Doctor Who companion

Now that another batch of companions has left the show, I felt like throwing a poll in commemoration. Of the characters who have played sidekick to the Doctor since the series restarted in 2005, which is your favorite?

Definitely Jack. He was slightly more on par with the Doctor- they could relate better. Yes, the whole fixed point in time thing made TARDIS travel eventually an issue, but I’d have liked him more as a companion than having to watch Torchwood.

It doesn’t hurt that he’s played by John Barrowman, who is beyond gorgeous.

Amy Pond. I like Rose a lot, and of course (and Billie Piper even more, fwawrr!), Jack is Jack and therefore great, but the Amy/Rory combo is now my favourite set of companions. Jack’s too much of an equal and that’s not what I want in my companions. And of the two, I prefer Amy to Rory a bit, so she wins out.

Donna became my favorite. She had the farthest journey. She wasn’t very likeable in the beginning. She was pretty shallow. But she quickly grew into one of the best companions.

Damn you for making me choose between Wilf and Rory, but I think Rory takes it for managing to die umpteen times and still come back to kick ass.

What Gyrate said. It was close, but Rory guarded Amy for 2000 years and punched Hitler. That’s hard to beat.

Even harder to beat:

“You think if you jump you’ll just come back to life?”
“When don’t I?”

Captain Jack, based on his Doctor Who character, not his Torchwood character.

He also had a Crowning Moment of Awesome (although the Doctor did most of the work) in “A Good Man Goes to War”:

BTW the poll leaves off Adam Mitchell, although I doubt anyone was likely to vote for him, considering.

I wonder how often people snap in that poor kid’s face.

I love Rory and Wilf and Donna and Donna is probably my favorite female character but I had to pick Captain Jack because he is just so cool.

Donna made me stop watching entirely. I liked Martha a lot, so I went with her.

I really, really liked Amy and Rory.
But I had to choose Rose.
I cried more when she left

This one is tough. I liked Martha Jones a lot and I think she is gorgeous, but there’s some of that unrequited love thing going on making it all mushy. Donna was cool and a nice break as she and the Doctor were just buddies, but she really wasn’t my favorite. Rose was fine, but they kept going back to her after and it kind of spoiled it a bit for me. Rory is pretty awesome for the reasons DianaG mentioned. I’m still leaning towards Martha, but I think I may have to think about it for a bit.

Heh. Martha about made me stop watching entirely, but Donna brought me back to watching regularly.

There are still many Martha episodes I haven’t watched because I couldn’t stand her. Rose was just ok and I loved Mickey, but Donna was what made me love the show.

I’m just checking that you’ve seen the run of the two episodes of Human Nature followed by Blink? That’s pretty much the best the show has ever been.

But what a difficult question posed by the OP! It’s either Donna, or the Ponds. Amy on her own wouldn’t win, but combined with Rory? Aargh.

I have yes, but those certainly aren’t my favorite episodes.

Exactly. Some companions are set up for you to love from the get-go (Rose, Jack, Amy), but the best are the ones who sneak up on you: Donna, Mickey, and Rory.

Donna was refreshing because she wasn’t spoony over, nor even particularly intimidated by, the Doctor. And she was smart; in retrospect, she may have been the most clever companion the Doctor travelled with.

Only eight episodes but he made the most of them.

Laura Pledger of Radio Times named Cribbins the best Doctor Who guest star, writing, "When he wasn’t making you smile, Wilfred Mott broke your heart".

Donna is my favorite companion.

Wilf is my favorite guest star.
