I’ve got an intermittent problem with the power windows on my 2006 Dodge Ram truck*
I know that the problem is at the driver’s door switch panel - a few weeks ago, the windows stopped working, and after I got the switch panel out and wiggled the wires, it came to life. Figuring it was just a loose plug, I unplugged and re-plugged both connectors and all seemed well.
Last night, the windows died again. As soon as I popped the panel out of the door, it lit up and was working. I tugged, pulled, pushed, twisted and shook the connectors and the individual wires, but couldn’t reproduce the fault. My guess at this point is that either the main power or ground connection to the thing is intermittent.
Does anyone here have any experience with these things? AFAIK, the same switch panel is used in a lot of trucks - believe it’s in the 2002 on through 2008 models. Mine is a 2006. Are they known for going flaky? Should I (can I?) take the thing apart and look for cracked solder joints or other similar faults?
Or do I just have to replace the thing? I’d hate to spend a chunk of money on parts if it turns out the problem is actually something else like a bad crimp in one of the plugs attached to the vehicle wiring harness.
- Just in case anyone asks - the full details are: 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Mega Cab, 5.7L Hemi, VIN code D with Inferno Red clearcoat and about 67,000 miles.
