Does a video exist of the Gabby Giffords shooting?

Just asking. Not that I want to see it.

It just seems that these days almost everything get recorded via surveillance cameras or cell phones. This was a very public event. Did it get captured?

My only interest is how the perp managed to be so destructive in such a short time.

If you’re not trying to aim each shot and just firing into a crowd, even an average shooter can get off 4-5 shots per second so a full 15-20 round magazine is empty in 4-5 seconds.

Watch a pro at work.

Sorry. Fixed link.

And Loughner had a magazine with 33 rounds (http://www.thenation.com/article/157716/jared-loughners-glock-weapon-mass-destruction) - adding another couple of seconds of mayhem at that firing rate.

Well, Rob Leatham and, to defend the revolver’s honor,Jerry Miculek, do train a little bit harder than your ordinary schizophrenic. I’m just surprised he managed 20 or so hits with under 33 shots, as IIRC, he had a stoppage before firing empty. Especially firing as fast as he was said to be doing.

FWIW, my understanding is that he would have done more damage with ordinary Glock magazines rather than The Matrix-y 33 rounders he was using, as he would be less likely to have a malfunction. Reloading can be done quickly, and is probably a more “normal” series of actions for a shooter to perform. A clearance/malfunction drill, OTOH, is something he probably didn’t practice all that often. Thankfully.

One of the witnesses that jumped this guy was a retired Army Colonel. He said there was a line of chairs. People were sitting, waiting to see the congresswoman. The Army Colonel was at the back, standing because the chairs were all full.

Loughner shot Giffords and her staff. Then started shooting the people in the chairs. Walking down the line until his gun stopped.

Somebody hit Loughner in the back with a chair. Then the Army Colonel and a few others dragged him to the ground.

Getting back to the OP, I seem to recall reading that there is some security camera footage, but it has not been publicly released.

OK, so something may be out there. Every Wal-Mart parking lot and every convenience store has video surveillance. People are continually using cell phones to record video in similar situations. It seemed odd to me that all descriptions seemed to be from eye witnesses, not video recordings.

I guess we just have to wait it out. Again, it’s not as if I’m anxious to see it. Maybe a highly edited and sanitized version would be OK just to get the perspective.

This Yahoo news article suggests that there is surveillance video:

I haven’t gone searching for it, I don’t suspect the quality is all that great, and I’m in no mood to lower my browsers anti-spam filters to go searching. Excerpts may be on the nightly news, eventually.

CNN just had a brief segment confirming there are some very detailed videos but that they are not being released at this time.

The chief investigator did describe the shooter as walking up to Giffords and pointing the gun at her face from 24-36 inches away.

It’s right next to the video of Steve Irwin being killed by a stingray.

If there is a trial I would expect the video to be used. However that does not mean the media are required to show the video. Some may show it and others will probably decline to show it.

Really? I thought it was by the Chris Chubbuck video.

Sure, and right beside that blooper reel from The Crow.
