Does anybody here recognize that name? He had a spot on WRUL radio in New York in the 1960s called “World Wide Hit Parade,” among others. His full name was Hillard E. Edell, but he was better known as Hill Edell. I’m doing some research and would like to find samples of his work. I looked on the Internet already and did not find much.
I was going to recommend radiodiscussions.com but it looks like there’s already someone asking about Hill Edell there. I did notice that even though that thread had no replies, it had been viewed 27 times, so your chances are probably pretty good over there.
Apparently, Mr. Edell had another line of endeavor aside from being a radio announcer that the average radio buffs were not aware of. A buddy of mine has about forty hours of recordings, and there is much more out there, that is suspected of being his but for which he never got credit, for some unknown reason. That’s what I’m trying to unravel. Unfortunately, he passed away over ten years ago, and it seems that there are no relatives around.
I got good results on this forum before, but it seems this mystery will go unsolved. I was hoping to find known recordings to match the voice. There is a sample at the New York Library, but I live in L.A.
Very strange. I searched Hill Edell today and found this post. I hurriedly joined this forum, because I am HIS SON. My father passed away in 2002. There is not much on Internet on him at all; I have some tapes of some of his interviews, and quite a few pictures of him with family but not much else. I miss him all the time.
I remember Hill well. We had a Hill Edell Fan Club in Marshall, MO (long story) back in 1963-1965. We actually got a call from him and were featured on his WRUL show. Our president met him in (I think) New Jersey a bit later. Enjoyed his show, and it was a bit of an “exclusive” for us shortwave nerds back in the day. I’m sorry to hear he is no longer with us.
