Does anyone actually find good clothes at discount stores?

I LOVE these stores. I once bought a pair of really cool designer jeans for $5.00 there! I also love Filene’s Basement and Building #19. Building #19, I always end up getting my shoes there…

I can never find anything even close to my size in thrift shops but have found stuff that are at least marked in my size when browsing discount stores like those specified in the OP. I would have at least tried some on if I had been able to buy anything at the time.

I can’t deal with the mess and hunting for clothes at places like Marshalls/TJ Maxx and Ross.

What I DO like is their shoe/handbag collection, because they have decent designers. They also seem to stock decent home goods at times but I’m not really a decor person.

For cheap clothes and nice quality bras, I still like Target and H&M (though not much of their new stuff). Things are displayed nicely and I can pick stuff out with ease. OTOH, I don’t like Target’s shoes or handbags at all.

I don’t like going to thrift stores anymore, though I was into it as a teenager. I just don’t have the patience or time.

Normally I shop at Target, but sometimes I will go to Ross with my mom, as she is now old enough for their Tuesday senior discount (55+). Last time I was there, I found some jeans in my size, and while I was in line, I found a woman trying on some trench coats. The first one she tried on was too big for her, so I offered to take it off her hands, and voila! It fit! (Well, OK, the sleeves are a bit too long, but who am I to argue?) This is a rare instance of me finding something (vaguely) stylish at Ross, and in something close to my size, no less!

I do really well at TJMaxx, Marshall’s, Daffys, etc (North NJ here). You have to wade through a lot of crap, granted. And it pays to go frequently.

I get a 30% discount there. I bought my niece’s prom dress at Last Call. It was February so obviously it was off season. I spent $27 for the dress she actually wore to prom and paid $125 for three formal dresses (including the prom dress) that she wore to other events that year.

I don’t really know much of anything about clothes and I haven’t tried shopping at those discount stores. I’ve taken to ordering overstock from Land’s End. The overstocks cost about as much as clothes from Target, but they feel better and they last more than twice as long. Of course, you have to just see what’s there and a lot of it doesn’t come in the right size or good colors. When I was returning an item from Land’s End at Sears (which now sells it), I found a few racks of items on even bigger discount, but not enough to drive there for just that.
