Hate whoever you want, but the weird thing is trying to claim there’s some kind of objective basis for it or that there’s some kind of logical rationale, much less trying to defend that viewpoint. A whole Pit thread over it seems beyond the pale.
I mean, I hate egg McMuffins. Everybody else seems to love them. I don’t claim my opinion is rational or even sensible (except possibly in a dietary sense). And if you tell me I’m dead wrong about it, I don’t really care. I’ll freely admit it’s just a personal feeling and I won’t bother trying to defend it, much less start an internet fight over it.
Or, you could say that i was trying to place Serkis in a wider context than just the last couple decades of movies; that my reaction has nothing to do with his time or place, and that this is not an opinion that just hit me out of the blue but was part of a way of thinking that i had considered over many, if not most, of the eras and genres of a century of cinema.
Are you talking to the people in this thread who have insisted I’m obliged to defend my opinion in a rational, objective way? Or to me, after i finally gave up on telling them that’s not how artistic opinions work, and tried to answer what they asked? Please read the thread to follow the succession of those ideas.
And I didn’t post this in the Pit. I posted it in Café Society. The only reason i can think of for moving it is that the mod who did so is an Andy Serkis fan, and wanted to dedirect rhe animus from him, the subject of my thread, to me, the author of it.
It was moved because it was a “rant” - it literally says so at the top. And given that the OP involved a desire to “kick the shit out of him”, I’d say that was an accurate description.
And if the “animus” is now against you, it’s entirely self-inflicted.
Sorry, I’m WE?, moving rants into the pit is fairly common. Has nothing to do with Andy Serkis or you.
As per Miller though, we’re probably going to stop doing this and close rants like your OP and give the OP the option of moving them to the pit or leaving them closed.
