Or if you have suggestions yourself I would love it. I’m working on a paper about the emotional impact of live vs. recorded music and am in need of some studies that discuss this. I’ve found the emotional difference between live music and digital, but what about a recording of a live performance? There have got to be studies out there about this, it’s a pretty controversial topic in the music world. So any suggestions you have for either forums or actual studies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is this for a college paper? If so, then ask a reference librarian. They’re paid to answer questions like this.
I PMed you a book recommendation.
Even if it’s not for a college paper, go to your nearest library (public or academic) and ask the reference librarian. This is their job.
Many university library web sites also provide an online chat based reference service, and I don’t think they usually bother to check whether you actually attend the university.
As this IS my official profession, I feel I must advocate:
USE A LIBRARY!!!
Ok, now that’s out of the way. ![]()
Here’s a link to a list from the Society for American Music listing research rooms and library collections regarding specifically *American *music research. I bet some of those will be helpful to you, even if the specific focus isn’t quite right.

It might be interesting to poke around in the social sciences lit a bit. I’d imagine that things like group dynamics, shared experiences, and even mob mentality might play a role in this type of emotional response.
Thanks everyone for your help. I have been working with my college librarian (used ILL, NYT, Web, Ebsco, etc) and we hadn’t found exactly what I was looking for yet so I thought I’d give you guys a try. I will definitely look into the sources you gave me. Thanks!
