Does anyone know anything about this boat? (Yahoo News Photo)

So on Yahoo’s most popular news page, there are always a number of interesting pictures. Today, there is one of a really cool boat going through the Panama Canal. (The article is apparently about the Canal, not the REAL story, which would be the scoop on the sheer radness of this boat) The picture is tiny, and I can’t make out the name on the bow, even though it is written in totally rad huge lettering. Only information is that it is New Zealand flagged. Here is the link in question: Raddest Boat Ever

Warning, link might be too rad for work! (OK just kidding)

Does anyone have any idea about the boat, or a place with more information?

Of course, comments on the boat’s rad factor are welcomed as well.

I’m guessing it’s this guy.

Here’s a link to a blog about life aboard the Earthrace yacht. From the blog “The Earthrace boat is a wavepiercing trimaran that runs on biodiesel fuel. The plan is to have the Earthrace break the world record for circumnavigating the globe in a powerboat, and using only renewable fuels. They are currently involved in an 18-month tour raising awareness about sustainable use of resources before the attempting to break the 75-day record next March. The Earthrace crew is hoping to complete the journey in less than 65 days. The Earthrace boat hits a top speed of 40 knots and the unique design lets her smash through the waves (up to 24 feet high according to one crew member I talked with”

More info also available from google-- my search words were Earthrace, yacht and zealand.

I hope this is helpful, not smug or snarky.

Though it’s tempting to say “I can read fuzzy small print better than T_Square can!”

The boat was featured on this weeks episode in a segment on “Discoveries This Week” which airs on the Science channel. Doesn’t look like another airing is scheduled before the next episode though.
