Does anyone know how to hack a PPC's password? or, QB Forgets Her Password

Yeah, I know. I should have written it down. And remembered where I wrote it down. I’m pretty sure I did item 1. Problem is, I didn’t do item 2.

So, why don’t I just do a hard reset and suck it up? Because I’ve been working on a story for the last week on Precious (the PPC, as in my precioussss), and the desktop PC just got reformatted so I can’t load it from backup. My mind is shaking like an addict that needs a fix. Other writers will know that writing is like scratching an itch; it’s self-perpetuating, and the longer you do it the worse it gets. Forget the games, forget QB’s Master List of Phone Numbers, I just want my story back! Aaaaaarrrrrgghhh!

And please don’t cheekily suggest that I try writing on paper. I’m a geek. I absolutely detest typing my longhand into the PC, with the result that nothing I write longhand ever gets into the computer, revised and formatted.

Please, can any of the software Dopers help me out here? Or any of the writing/techgeek Dopers console me with stories of similar losses?

What Operating System are you using?

I’m not sure what PPC is, sorry, but for cracks, I go to www.astalavista.com. They may have a tool that can help you.

You talking IBM PowerPC with AIX for your OS?

I assume you don’t mean a Macintosh PowerPC with OS X. Calling a Mac a PPC is like calling a computer a digital computer.

Sorry, should have specified that. PPC as in Pocket PC, a PDA. It’s running WinCE.

Oh, and ouisey, your link isn’t working…

Off the top of my head if you have set an overall access password on your WindowsCE Pocket Job then you are probably going to struggle to get in and “find out” the password - sorry.

Pretty much the only way to get past that is do a complete system reset which tends to take the data with it.

There may be a way round but being at work its not something i really want to look into over the office internet connection

Plus i know the mods frown on this kind of discussion - even if your purpose is entirely reasonable, others might be reading who don’t think that way.

Quantum Butterfly, it looks like when you click the link, it includes the period at the end of the url. Try this: www.astalavista.com

Yeah, this is probably something that doesn’t need to be broadcast. So, as I see QB’s e-mail is public, if anyone has help for her that they think might be too sensitive to be posted here, please make use of that avenue to communicate the information.

Thanks all.
