Does Anyone Like Cole Slaw?

I absolutely love it! Cabbage, carrot and onion with a ton of mayo and a generous amount of vinegar. I could eat bowls of the stuff if put in front of me.

I have probably said “No cole slaw, please” more than any other phrase I have uttered in a restaurant.

I have many similar experiences. Especially when the vinegary kind is on offer. That stuff’s good.

Funny, with slightly altered punctuation, that’s what I say too!

Heh.

“Fries with that?”

“No, cole slaw, please!”

I just remembered one cole slaw I did like: a bbq place I used to go did it with pecans. I don’t know if I would eat it alone but it was really complimentary to a lot of their other food.

I really like coleslaw, but I prefer it to be vinegar-y rather than sweet. And I feel like I’m one of the few people on the planet who likes coleslaw, but HATES KFC coleslaw and any other coleslaw that is that radioactive green colour!

andiepandie, I totally agree with you- I go for vinegar over sugar, and KFC just isn’t good at that.

Sometimes when I am lazy, instead of making real coleslaw, I just mix Pace salsa with cabbage and throw in some crunched up cumin seeds. It’s like Mexican coleslaw, or something, I guess. But I prefer a vinegary high-quality mayo coleslaw with a little but not too much carrot or apple.

I like good coleslaw, but I am often disappointed; there is an awful lot of inedible crap out there being passed off as coleslaw. Cabbage and mayo is not coleslaw. The key is mixing equal parts of sugar and white vinegar, then add mayo until it reaches a creamy consistency. If it doesn’t have that sweet-tang, it is dead to me. I also add shredded carrot, purple cabbage and crushed pineapple.

I love it, though cole slaw from the East is better than what I get here on the Left Coast. In NJ our local supermarket had excellent slaw, I picked up large tubs of it for our department picnic. But the best was made by my father, who used to run a lunch counter before World War Twice. I helped him make it once, and it was delicious. But I never wrote it down. :smack: I’m going to see him next weekend, and maybe he’ll remember it, but I doubt it.
