Does anyone like message hearts?

I used to love them - would buy bags of them around Valentine’s day - and eat them all myself.

Now that I’ve lost weight, candy doesn’t appeal as much. I do have to say, though, that I used to like candy corn (honey-sweetened, indian the best), and I’ve never had a circus peanut & have no desire to ever have one.

I love the Necco ones and I kinda shun all the rest. I eat those wafers whenever I can find them! Circus peanuts I like, but I’m kinda indifferent to candy corn. They taste like wax mostly. There was a brown kind that I used to like though…mmm…I can’t wait until the day after Halloween!

I like the creativity aspect of the hearts, but the taste, bleh. Put them over there with the candy corn and the circus peanuts. The butter mints, though, can go right over here by me …

I don’t like circus peanuts, but I love candy corn, those pumpkin-shaped pieces of candy corn, and butter mints.

Recently I was at a wedding of a childhood friend. The friend was British but had spent a lot of her childhood in the US. Her husband to be was American, but the wedding was held in Oxford.

At the tables at the reception they had scattered coversation hearts by way of edible decoration. The British guests at my table were like, “What are these?”

And I said, “well, they’re this candy you can only get around Valentine’s day, and they have stupid sayings on them, and they’re kind of disgusting, but I like them.”

A few hearts were sampled and the British guests’ initial reaction was, “ew.” but later, they changed their minds. “You’re right! They are kind of gross! But kind of good too!”

For the record, I like conversation hearts, candy corn, indian corn and butter mints. Not too crazy about circus peanuts, but I’d eat a couple if I had to.

And from that same episode, we find out the secret recipe for the hearts.

Bonemeal and earwig honey.

Think about that next time you eat one.

I like them! They are too hard to chew, therefore the only acceptable way to eat them (IMHO) is to put one in your mouth and sort of let it sit there until it begins to desolve, at which point you can bite into it and get one big rush of pure, unadulterated sugar! Always liked candy corn and indian corn, too.

I love them, but I’m very picky about them. I only like the ones made by Brachs, and specifically the Large Conversation Hearts. If you get a fresh bag, they’re not so hard like some of the people have complained about… I usually get several bags over the course of the Valentine’s Day season…
